Reflection
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)
1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology coaching and technology leadership from completing this field
experience?
I worked with the language arts and science teachers in my team to create a PBL on the topic of WWII that we would be implementing during the spring
semester. We needed to use our iTunes U platforms to relay and store all of our resources for the students. We also needed to use this tool for students to
create and house their products, and to find specific technology tools that would help our different learners to achieve this goal and to be able to easily work
with this platform. One of the teachers was not as familiar with how to use iTunes U, therefore, this provided an excellent opportunity for me to coach her on
how to create, set-up, and be able to use this platform for a PBL project like the one we were creating together to use in the spring semester. I had to learn
that coaching is not pushing my own beliefs and desires on to another. It is also not trying to have the person I am coaching do certain things in the same
format that I do them. Successful coaching is, however, the ability to know what the person you are coaching needs and wants and to help them to create
new ways to achieve the goals they have set forth for themselves as well as their students.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs,
enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected above. Use the language of the PSC
standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)
Knowledge – This field experience made me realize that, as an instructional technology coach, I need to be familiar with the various technology tools that
can be used to meet the needs of all the students I have in my classroom. This includes my ESL and my learning disabled students. I also needed to know
whether they were compatible with what we were trying to accomplish in our PBL. I also needed to know how to support our school’s learning and
technology directives by incorporating technology tools and the iTunes U platform.
Skills – For this learning field experience I must be able to understand the various technology tools that are available and that would benefit ESL and
learning disabled students. I must also understand the partnership principle in regard to coaching and working with fellow peers to assist in understanding
new technology platforms that are being required as part of our school directives.
Dispositions – As a team member working on creating a PBL with fellow colleagues, I needed to make sure that I was positive as well as productive. I
wanted to make sure that I could contribute by sharing what I have learned in my ITEC classes with my peers and especially in regard to technology
integration and assistive technology. I wanted to be motivating for both my colleagues that I was working with as well as the students who would be
conducting this PBL. Therefore, I wanted to make sure I was available for support and assistance, as needed.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be
assessed?
This field experience would be impacting both faculty development and student learning. It can be assessed through the successful mentoring and coaching
of a colleague in becoming more comfortable and competent using iTunes U. This field experience also gave me the opportunity to share some additional
technology resources and tools with colleagues that we determined we would utilize within our PBL to make it more enriching and authentic for our
students. The impact will be assessed through the eventual data accumulated after the completion of the PBL. We are also planning on creating a survey for
the students to complete using Google Forms to get a more in-depth look at areas that we would like specific feedback on.
