Introduction
Objective
Introduction to the general technical equipment to be used in lab
Observing technical equipment characteristics
Investigating basics of circuit theory using power devices
Variac
A variac regulates voltage in a manner similar to a standard transformer, exploiting the
laws of magnetic induction. It is a variable voltage regulator with a control knob. By
turning the knob, you can manually regulate its output voltage from zero to 120 volts
AC (alternating current). You can use it to control electronic equipment and lighting.
Some of the pics of variac collected from various sources are shown below
Ammeter
An ammeter is a measuring instrument used to measure the electric current in
a circuit. Electric currents are measured in amperes (A), hence the name.In our lab
ammeters are permenantly fixed on experiment benches and we can use different
scales for our convinence purpose to measure current with the help of those ammeters.
Below are the figures of some ammeter devices.

Voltmeter
A voltmeter is an instrument used for measuring electrical potential difference
between two points in an electric circuit. Analog voltmeters move a pointer across a
scale in proportion to the voltage of the circuit; digital voltmeters give a numerical
display of voltage by use of an analog to digital converter. In our lab Voltmeters are
made in a wide range of styles. Instruments permanently mounted in a panel are used
to monitor generators or other fixed apparatus. Some of the figures of voltmeters are
shown below.

Procedure
1. Connect a voltmeter parallel to the bulb (resistor). Measure and record it.
2. Connect an ammeter series to the bulb. Measure and record it.
3. Calculate power dissipation of the bulb and check it with the written on. Compare and
comment with you found.
4. Change resistor with a capacitor and do the same steps.
5. Change capacitor with an inductor and do the same steps
6. Connect oscilloscope voltage probe to the bulb and observe the wave characteristic.
7. Connect oscilloscope current probe to the bulb and observe the wave characteristic.
