The delegate from the United Arab Emirates highlights that gender inequality still exists globally despite measures taken toward equality. The UAE government is committed to women's rights and empowerment through its national strategic plan, which aims to protect women from discrimination at work and in society. Initiatives to strengthen women's economic empowerment include establishing a gender balance council in 2015 to review policies and achieve workplace gender balance. Thank you excellences for recognizing the delegate of United Arab Emirates.

The delegate
of United Arab Emirates would like to state that Egregious gender inequality still exists
globally despite of substantial national and international measures that have been taken
towards gender equality. Measures of gender equality include access to basic education,
health and life expectancy, equality of economic opportunity, and political empowerment.
Although there have been evident progresses made, but still many alarming issues regarding
gender discrimination prevail today;
The govt of UAE is committed to women's human rights: The empowerment of women is
fundamental for our development as a modern and progressive society. Women participate
on an equal basis in every facet of civic, economic and political life in the UAE. Chair
Our commitment starts at the top and is integrated in our national strategic plan. Women's
equality is part of the UAE's Vision 2021 National Agenda, which aims at protecting women
from all forms of discrimination at work and in society and will continue to help women
achieve ever-greater empowerment in all spheres.
The govt has implemented a number of initiatives to strengthen the economic
empowerment of women in the UAE. In May 2015, the Government establish the UAE
Gender Balance Council to ensure that women continue to play a leading role in the
development of the UAE. The Council is carrying out several functions, including reviewing
legislation, policies and programs to achieve gender balance in the workplace.
Key to the economic empowerment of women is equality in education. According to the
World Economic Forum's 2014 Global Gender Gap Report, the UAE has essentially reached
equality between men and women in educational attainment. 95% of female high school
graduates go on to pursue higher education (compared with 80% of the male
students). Women constitute 70% of college graduates in the country.
The delegate of United Arab Emirates urges the international community present here that
total gender equality must be made a global priority as a fundamental step in both human
development and economic progress and proper policies should be implemented to combat
any form of inequality which is faced by women.
