THBT CHILDREN LOST THEIR CHILDHOOD FOR THE PRESSURE OF

EDUCATION

Government

Definition of childhood from Cambridge dictionary is

the time when someone is a child.

The period of childhood

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child defines child as "a
human being below the age of 18 years unless under the law applicable to the
child, majority is attained earlier"

Definition of pressure from oxford

The use of persuasion or intimidation to make someone do something.

In our motion context today, pressure of education means that the use of
persuasion or intimidation to make children do something to excel in education.

1. KILLS THEIR IMAGINATION

The survey of comparative childhood experiences was conducted for the

Cartoon Network children's channel. It found that academic pressures were
cutting into leisure time, with 85% of parents saying they arranged extra-
curricular educational activities for their children.

There were 35% of parents who said their children spent at least half an hour a
night on homework and revision.

"Childhood is over all too quickly these days and we are hoping that this
research will highlight to parents the importance of encouraging children to
exercise their imaginations and take a break from the demands of life, whether
this be through role-play or simply watching an imaginative cartoon," Cecilia
Persson, of the Cartoon Network, said.

- The children are not allowed to enjoy

Enjoyment is really important in life for a really healthy and really great enjoying
life.
The people who are not enjoying cant have a healthy and laughing life .
Enjoyment you can get it in very few places so don't waste the enjoyment you
can get in your life thank you

- Yes, it is true that our childhood has become less enjoyable due to the
pressure of education.

--> Parents constantly instill the need for studying and reading in us from a very
young age, and they always have high expectations.
--> As children go into higher grades, the workload drastically increases which
gives kids less time to spend with friends and outdoors from a tender age.
--> Pressure on education and high expectations should only be kept when the
child goes to high school or university. If we pressure them from a young age, it
is a bit too much for them and children push themselves a bit too much to make
their parents proud.

2. CHILDHOOD STRESS AND LEAD TO PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS.

A Department of Pediatrics study from Institute of Maternal and Child Health of

Calicut Medical College found 73% of kids to be stressed. The study lists
examination failure, learning problems, overall stress in family and overall stress
at school as important parameters of stress.

JW Wilson from Advanced Learning Institute stated that, "Some parents

and educators believe that a child is like a huge container. To insure the
child's success, they think it their job to fill it up with as much information as
possible, as quickly as possible. This misconception is damaging the
brilliance of millions of our youth."
Worryingly, we all feel the pressure to do more, to experience more and, in
turn, to provide more for our children. And so, more and more parents are
hell-bent on stimulating and pushing their children further on the premise
that the more young children know, the more they do, and the better their
chances of success later in life.
This is not just a desperate fringe group – in a recent poll, over 87 per cent
of parents said they believed that the more stimulation a child received, the
more successful they would be.

A Department for Health commissioned survey in 2004

concluded that 1 in 10 British children aged 5-16 are
diagnosed with mental disorders. Childhood stress,
psychological problems and self-abuse are increasing.

Gone are the hazy days when kids could run free all day and play.
Urbanisation has had many implications for childhood play but at the core
humans are still 'hunter-gatherers' and need to seek out knowledge of
'being social' through experience and discovery. Through play "children
develop… an emergent sense of competence … feelings of 'belonging',
'usefulness', and subsequent well-being." When deprived of play, children
lack social connectivity and have less 'mental wellness'. Is lack of play
contributing to a dysfunctional society?

Childhood free play is the basis on which individuals develop many crucial
social skills which equip them for the intricacies of life in adult communities.
UNICEF states, free play in peer groups helps children "learn and practise
the control of aggression, the management of conflict, the earning of
respect and friendship, discussion of feelings, appreciation of diversity, and
awareness of the needs and feelings of others." With play at the core of
children's social development, why are we continually degrading it?

Play is a global universal; throughout evolution it has always been

important. The authors urge UK/US policy makers to rethink and reinstate
the importance of play vs. adult-led learning. They conclude that increased
opportunities for free play are the key to organic development of a healthy
generation.

3. LACK OF SOCIAL INTERACTION
Opposition

Definition of childhood from unicef

Childhood is the time for children to be in school and at play, to grow strong and
confident with the love and encouragement of their family and an extended
community of caring adults.

That is absolutely ridiculous

The fact that kids are "pressured" by their education is extremely laughable. It's
not like kids start taking SAT's or apply for jobs in preschool or even middle
schools. All they need to do is know what they need to know for the world [the
basics], socialize, and get out of bed to go to school. Education is a known right
and any child is lucky enough to get an education. How would you go and live a
life without education? All kids need is the right encouragement and they won't
feel bored and pressured in school.
