Student Learning Time (SLT): The time required by a student to understand the syllabus or curriculum content and to fulfill the registration
requirements to complete a study programme. It fulfills the framework of student centered teaching and learning.

SLT can be translated into four major operational components:

(i) Official Contact Time: the time required for a student to understand the syllabus or curriculum content and to fulfill the registration
requirements to complete a study programme given by Instructors/ Lecturers with a compulsory attendance in lecture/ lab/
tutorial mode.
(ii) Guided Learning Hours: the time required for a student to understand the syllabus or curriculum content and to fulfill the
registration requirements to complete a study programme with the assistance of Instructors such as tutorials/ lab works/ field study
etc.
(iii) Self Study Time: the time required for a student to understand the syllabus or curriculum content independently.
(iv) Assessment Time: the time required by a student (outside the official contact hours) to be assessed in any form of prescribed mode
(seat/ carried out).
Frequency can be defined as time taken/ lecture attended/ report produced etc.
