Feedback Task 1 (Technology Free) : Name

This document provides instructions for a feedback task on mathematical methods. Students must show their work and thinking processes to solve 5 questions involving solving equations, finding gradients and y-intercepts of lines, solving simultaneous equations, and sketching a graph. The task is to be completed over the weekend and due during the next math lesson in week 2.

Unit 1 Mathematical Methods/Ongoing Revision – Feedback Task 1

Name: ___________________

Feedback Task 1 (Technology Free)

Purpose: To build ongoing revision into the weekly teaching and learning program.
Satisfactory completion: All questions must be answered so that the thinking and mathematical processes
used is clearly evident. The task must be completed on loose leaf lined paper, with each question clearly
labelled and neatly presented. The question sheet must be stapled to your solutions.
Due: This task is to be completed during the weekend and is due in the first maths lesson of week 2.

Question 1

Solve for x:

4−3𝑥
a) 2𝑥 − 5 = 5(𝑥 + 2) b) 2
> −2

Question 2

A line passes through the points 𝐴 (2, 0) and 𝐵 (4, 1).

a) Find the gradient of the line segment AB.

b) Hence, find the equation of the line that passes through points A and B.
c) Find the midpoint of the line segment AB.
d) Find the distance of the line segment AB.

Question 3

a) State the gradient and the y-intercept of the line 3𝑥 − 4𝑦 = 12.

b) Hence find the equation of the line that passes through the point (8, 7) and is parallel to 3𝑥 − 4𝑦 = 12 .

Question 4

Solve the following set of simultaneous equations

5𝑥 − 3𝑦 = 8

𝑥 = 2𝑦 − 4

Question 5

2
Sketch the graph of 𝑦 = 6 − 3 𝑥, labelling axial intercepts with their coordinates.
