INTRODUCTION
“Everything is always created twice, first in the mind and then in reality.”
The knowledge of a student gained from the college professors are not enough when
only learned by pure imagination. That is why an internship or the so-called OJT (On-the-Job
Training) is created. This serves as a way that gives students a chance to apply the lessons
learned from the school. It also aids the students to achieve relevant knowledge and skills
through the actual experience in working in the field of their profession. Thus, the workplace and
the field serve as a new venue of learning for the student.
For a company or an organization who willingly accept a student trainee, OJT program
provides them additional manpower without expecting salary to pay back. Student trainees can
bring fresh ideas, and if even given such opportunity to speak their minds freely, they may be
able to contribute significantly in brainstorming sessions that will possibly help for the
productivity of the company.
As for the OJT program for Teachers, the students would be trained technically in their
chosen field of interest. This provides opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a
specific job. In effect, this will certainly lead them for their professional growth and
development. Generally, while training the interns, supervisors are in fact also teaching the
process of guiding the trainees stretches their patience, develops engineering skills and makes
them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of the younger generation. The course of
supervision also teaches them how to share what they know and be receptive to questions.
Hence, the internship also becomes an avenue in training for future employees and managers.

DAILY JOURNAL
Day 1
So the immersion started. On the very same day, we got assigned to our respective
superiors. Mine was Mr. Selosa, an English teacher.
We immediately talked about what we’re going to do during the immersion. First he
introduced to me how to make grades and how to input it in computer.
He told me to prepare a reflection paper every afternoon before leaving.
Then, Day 1 ended.
Day 2
Around 8:30 in the AM, I encoded Grade 11 student’s grade sheet into the computer until
afternoon.
Then, Day 2 ended.
Day 3
I was called by Mr. Selosa and he told me to teach tomorrow morning in HE Grade 11.
He gave me the topic, and I immediately read it and familiarize it.
Then, Day 3 ended.
Day 4
The day of my very first teaching, I’m so nervous that my mind went blank during my
introduction in class, that was so embarrassing, 2 hours of discussion and the class was
dismissed.
Then, Day 4 ended.
Day 5
Around 8:30 in the AM, I encoded Grade 11 student’s grade sheet into the computer until
afternoon.
Day 6
Around 8:30 in the AM, I encoded Grade 11 student’s grade sheet into the computer until
afternoon. Also Mrs. Laylay also called me for me to encode some grades.
Around 8:30 in the AM, I encoded Grade 11 student’s grade sheet into the computer until
afternoon.
Then, Day 7 ended.
Day 8
Around 8:30 in the AM, I encoded Grade 11 student’s grade sheet into the computer until
afternoon.
Then, Day 8 ended.
Day 9
Around 8:30 in the AM, I encoded Grade 11 student’s grade sheet into the computer until
afternoon.
Day 10
This is the day, the last day. So my discussion started. This time I was assigned to ICT
11, I gather myself together and give them a blast I didn’t get over excited and show
nervousness, I only displayed my capabilities and skills as a teacher.
The immersion taught me so many things, but there is one thing that I have learned which
I think is the most important. Being a teacher requires passion. It is not an easy job and it
requires dedication and perseverance.
And officially, the work immersion ended.
SAMPLE WRITTEN OUTPUTS
1.
Education is said to be the key to success, therefore it is important to have the right
teaching style, just like what I’ve observed.
If I was the teacher, I would do the same thing: be a fun teacher. Of course, skills such as
mastery of the material, good communication skills, and being confident are all important, but
being able to keep the atmosphere light is what I think is the most significant skill a teacher
should possess.
A fun environment is possible because of sense of humor. I define sense of humor as not
only being able to do jokes but also laugh at others’ too. This creates a connection or bond
between the students and the teacher, making it easier to communicate.
The second thing I think is important is mastery of the material. I have observed that it
easy to teach the topic if you know the topic. Pauses are limited and the flow of discussion is
very fluid.
I have also observed that the teacher knows his objective and thus, is able to perform and
teach at ease.
All in all, keeping the atmosphere light and mastery of the material will bring success to
everyone in the field of education.
2.
People are quite diverse. The same goes to groups of people.
In my observation about the HRM and education class, they are different in just one
aspect: their size. The HRM class has about 30-40 students while the Education class only has
about 20 students.
The classes are almost similar in behavior and character. Both are playful/loud, but active
in participation. The difference is that the HRM class is much louder compared to the other class,
because of their size of course.
The teaching style that I saw I the first class is also applicable in the Education class.
Well actually it is a teaching style that is very much applicable to all types of classes.
3.
To become an effective speaker, one must catch the attention of the audience.
As what I’ve observed, the teacher didn’t really care if anyone is listening or not. She
went through the topic like she was discussing it to a wall. She wasn’t able to attract anyone’s
attention leading to ineffectiveness and waste of time.
If I were the teacher, I would ask everyone to please go to their respective seats and take
away anything unrelated to the subject.
After that, ask questions. It is the best way for someone to catch someone’s attention. The
teacher was asking very few questions that the attention quickly dissipates.
Well I must say that she has good communication skills, but lacks attention-catching
skills.
Overall, for one to become an effective teacher, his/her students must become good
listeners.
4.
Preparation plays a big role in everything we do.
In what I have experienced, rehearsing the chosen topic is quite helpful. Of course,
knowing the right and appropriate words and mastering the material, but it’s not only that.
Knowing your student’s prior knowledge about the topic will help you generate a more
fluid and productive lesson plan. That is what I lacked. I know the material but I didn’t know my
student’s prior knowledge about the topic. I assumed that they were already familiar with the
topic which made me go a bit speedy on my discussion. However, it was too that some of them
might not have absorbed what I taught.
5.
For the second time around, preparation is always a key for a successful presentation.
I got to admit, I was not that much prepared. There weren’t really a lot of time to prepare
the things I needed. I even had my Mom to help me write my visual aids. Also, the motivation
got my head blank. It took me about an hour to construct that idea which I thought would still be
enjoyed by college students. But it didn’t end there. My friend ran out of black ink but luckily
the photos were still presentable.
The discussion I think was a little above good. The review of the past lesson and the
introduction for the next topic was okay. The problem was in the part wherein I was discussing
about the Pearson product moment correlation. I think it would have been better if I also wrote it
down on a piece of Manila paper. It took me some time to write down that amount of numbers in
the board which lead to a long dead air.
Another mistake that I made was I became a bit impatient. I grew tired of dead airs that I
didn’t wait for them to answer my question about the value of our topic. Because of that, my
third objective wasn’t fulfilled.
All of these made me realize something: that teaching is really about passion. Doing all
of these every single day makes me wonder if “can I actually do this?” But one thing is for sure,
teaching is enjoyable.
WORK IMMERSION HIGHLIGHTS
Around fifty trainees, including me were oriented to clarify how the immersion process
will go on. We were assigned to our respective superiors (teachers from EECP) and given tasks
to finish each day.
I was assigned to Sir Selosa, an English teacher. The first thing he taught me to is how to
encode grades.
Tasks such as observations and reflection papers were my pre-tasks
After my superior read my objectives, he agreed that he will give me the chance to teach
a particular class in college. He first taught me the topic, which is statistics, and then asked me
make a lesson plan.
The session went great but of course there is a lot of room for improvement. The demo
was then followed by another, and another. It was a really productive week for me. I was able to
absorb teaching techniques from a great teacher.
The last activity was a final demonstration for teaching. My demo was almost perfect in
my personal opinion if it wasn’t for the time allotment. But it is safe to say that I was able to
learn so much throughout those 80 hours.

REFERENCE:
Immersion period is one of the many factors wherein your ability to appreciate essential
and profitable business processes will be measured. Moreover, this is also the period wherein
you are given the chance to apply all the skills and necessary attitudes that you have learned
from school.
Before going to work wear appropriate clothes that suits you well. Your appearance
should always be neat and clean. If there isn’t a dress code, pick attire that is the norm for your
place of employment. Because sometimes, people will treat you on how you look.
Be punctual; make it as your top priority. Always make sure that you will arrive on time
because it demonstrates your commitment to your job. Remember, school is different from work,
no more excuses/consideration. In short, do not be late.
Don’t be distracted so easily, keep away from any temptations that will make you
distracted. Always focus on what you want to achieve and to your goals.
Another DON’T, is forgetting to greet people around you especially the ones with a
higher position. Even if they won’t response or you do not like the person, it is still a manner to
greet them.
Always keep in mind that you are not just bringing your name, rather you’re bringing the
name of your school and your family’s name. So make sure you possess formality, act according
to your level, pay careful attention to your office etiquette and make sure your behavior is in line
with expectations.
Keep in mind that no one has ever succeeded because of laziness. So always push
yourself to the limits. Don’t procrastinate for it can damage your potential.
Wear your smile, ALWAYS; wear it before, during, and after your job. Even if how
much tired you are, it is always important to put a smile on your face to attract positivism.
And lastly believe in God and in yourself, don’t forget to ask God for guidance and
protection, that you may be able to continue living for tomorrow and for the next days. And
always believe in yourself.
REFLECTION PAPER
The only way to do great work is to love what you do. For almost 10 days and counting
of having Work Immersion, I could say it was really such a great adventure, it really was a great
experience for me and I would treasure it for my whole life. This was the first time that I’ve felt
being like an employee; I’ve never imagined such thrilling event in my life. All of the struggling,
sacrifices, pain, laughter and happiness that we’ve shared. It’s amazing.
