800 hrs. The engineers develop a new design of tubes a sample of 64 of these new tubes

gives 10200 hrs as the mean life. Is this improvement real or due to chance. Give your

answer at 5% level of significance.

found to be defective. How many defective articles would you reasonably expect to find

in the whole batch?

7. A manufacturer of readymade garments conducts a market survey to known the choice of

brands. A, B, C, and D of 100 prospective customers. The results show A=20, B=30,

C=18 and D=32. Use chi- square test to know if customers have any distinct brand

preference.

8. What should be the size of the sample if a simple random sample from a population of

4000 items is to be drawn to estimate the percent defective within the percent of the true

value with 95.5 percent probability? What would be the size of the sample if the

population is assumed to be infinite in the given case?
