1.1 Preparation
Equipment: OSCILLOSCOPE
1.2 EXPERIMENT
T1 Measure the peak-to-peak, average, and rms voltages of the output of the NOISE GENERATOR
using an oscilloscope. Do this for all the settings of the module, from 0dB to 22dB. Tabulate your results
on the answer sheet provided. Do not proceed to the next part unless your instructor allowed you.
T2 Connect either output of the AUDIO OSCILLATOR to the input of the BASEBAND CHAN-
NEL FILTERS . Set the BASEBAND CHANNEL FILTERS CHANNEL SELECT knob to Channel 1
(Straight-through).
T3 Set the frequency of the AUDIO OSCILLATOR to 1kHz. Observe the output using an oscilloscope.
Find the -3dB point of of the current baseband channel lter, if any.
T4 By sweeping the frequency of the AUDIO OSCILLATOR, measure the magnitude and phase re-
sponse. Measure the magnitude and phase response for at least 4 frequencies below and at least 4
frequencies above the -3dB point. Write the measurements in the answer sheet provided.
T5 Set the BASEBAND CHANNEL FILTERS CHANNEL SELECT knob to Channel 2 (Butterworth,
7th order). Repeat Tasks 3 and 4.
T6 Set the BASEBAND CHANNEL FILTERS CHANNEL SELECT knob to Channel 3 (Bessel, 7th
order). Repeat Tasks 3 and 4.
T7 Set the BASEBAND CHANNEL FILTERS CHANNEL SELECT knob to Channel 4 (Linear Phase,
7th order). Repeat Tasks 3 and 4.
T8 Using an AUDIO OSCILLATOR, generate a sinusoidal signal with an rms voltage of 0.5V. Set the
frequency within the passband of the Channel 3 lter. Compute the power of the sinusoidal signal.
T9 Add a band-limited (pass it through the Channel 3 lter) AWGN to the sinusoidal signal. Using
the NOISE LEVEL knob of the NOISE GENERATOR or the variable gain of the ADDER, vary the
power of the noise until the total power is 10% more than the power of the pure sinusoidal signal.
T10 Determine the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the output at the ADDER.
T11 Repeat Tasks 9 and 10; but now, replace 10% with 50%.
