CAPACITOR

EXERCISE 1

1.

Refer to the circuit above. Determine the total capacitance across XY.

Answer

2. Refer to the circuit below. Determine

(i) the charge stored in each capacitor
(ii) the p.d across each capacitor

Answer

3. Refer to the circuit below. Determine
(i) the charge stored in each capacitor
(ii) the p.d across each capacitor

Answer

4. Two capacitors of capacitance 4.0 μF and 8.0 μF are connected in series. A constant voltage supply
of 6.0 V is applied across this series combination. The voltage supply is then removed and two
capacitors are separated from each other. After that the two positively charged ends of the
capacitors are connected together, and so are the two negatively charged ends. Determine
(i) the new p.d across the capacitors
(ii) the charge stored in each capacitor

Answer

5. Refer to the diagram below. Before the switch is closed, the p.d
across capacitor Z is 10.0 V. Capacitors X and Y are uncharged.
The switch is then closed and after a while no current flows in
the circuit. Determine
(i) the p.d across each capacitor
(ii) the charge stored in each capacitor
