INTRODUCTION
ABOUT US:
In order to enhance the employability of Civil Engineers, concentrated efforts have been made to
enhance the skill of Civil Engineering students. All those who are trained at CETR acquire relevant
skills to perform in the industry from day one. As per the “Skill Gap Assessment Report of Odisha”
there is a huge demand of skilled manpower in construction and real estate sector as shown in below
image. So this is the time to make our Civil Engineering students ready for industry.
Most of the students used to get serious about their career after completing their academic courses.
Early decision on career can shape their future in a better way for the competitive job market. So CETR
is putting its effort to ensure that the Civil Engineering students are guided into the right career path.
CETR provides a range of activities to assist the future Civil Engineers for their career development.
These include organizing Executive Training Program, Practical Workshops, Seminars and Industrial
Exposure by leading experts on how to broaden the scope of career option and guarantee success.
A typical University degree without proper knowledge on subject will not help all to get job until
unless it is supplemented with activities which help to develop a student. CETR professionals are
mentoring the students for proper visualization on subjects and helping to develop skills on that. The
practical exposure/tips provided at CETR ensured a student to be confident in embarking their career.
2
CETR is conducting test series which would set them in good standing from the outset. The team of
CETR involves finding a balance between what students know and what employer’s requirement is.
The gap is assessed for skill development of students. The team also assist students to build their
resume & advices on how to prepare for interview.
The courses are broadly classified into 2 categories. The Industry oriented course is again subdivided
into 3 categories focusing as per the Industry requirement, which are also appreciated by the industry
and students, are listed below:

INDUSTRY ORIENTED COURSE
!!!!!! BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE!!!!!
Our course is aimed at students who are pursuing engineering studies or have just completed it with
little or no onsite experience. It also focuses for people who been working in industry and are willing to
believe in themselves and work towards a better future in engineering with the latest technologies in
use.
Job as a site or construction engineer offers career opportunities in construction field, including Road,
Building and Industrial Construction. It is considered a challenging job and includes execution of mega
projects at different levels.
Course Content:
Construction Site Visits
Lab Test
Drawing Study
Road And Building Estimation
Ms Project (Optional)
Students will be sent to site for 30 days and engaged in different activities. Various lab test
required at site by the material testing engineers are carried out at our test centre to determine the
properties of soil, concrete and pavement. The test includes Liquid limit, Plastic limit, CBR Test,
Standard Penetration Test, Plate Load Test etc.
The drawing study includes how to give layout of a building?, checking plans drawings and
quantities for accuracy of calculations, ensuring all materials used and work performed as per
specification, day to day management of the site including monitoring and supervising the site,
resolving any unexpected technical issue at site, planning the work and efficiently organizing the
plant and site facilities in order to meet agreed deadline.
A.3. ESTIMATION:
Estimation plays a vital role in industry for the Civil Engineers. The academic course covers
only small part of calculation which will not help the fresh Engineers to perform in industry. In
industry excel sheet calculation is required as it gives accuracy and takes less time for any kind
of calculation. We at CETR train students to develop excel sheet template on their own and
they carry out all calculation using this.
Course Content:

B. DESIGN COURSE
Design Engineers are used to work in consultant. Highway and Structural engineers at
consultancies are responsible for designing Road, Building Bridges etc. The design engineer
must have knowledge about codal provisions, analysis and software on specific field. The work
is largely office-based and occasional site visit is there.
B.1. AUTOCAD (OPTIONAL)
The introduction of this tutorial into young civil engineers is to make them aware of the essence
of structural engineering, its application in practice including in field requirements at site as well
as introduction and in depth study into the software developed by Bentley.

C. SURVEY AND GIS
Course Content
Total station survey
Civil 3D/MX Road
Geographic Information System (GIS)
a) Levelling
b) Contouring
c) Hydrological Study
d) Drainage
e) Topography
a) Levelling
Levelling is the art of representing relative positions in the vertical plane of different points
on the earth’s surface.
It helps in determining the areas that are to be levelled to achieve a certain slope.
Practical: Students will be taken to site with Auto level for survey. Learning will be Back sight, Fore
Sight and HI. Levelling will be start from GTS /BM location and will done for a stretch of 3km.
b) Contouring
Learn the use and meaning of contour lines on maps and understand how to use them. Hills,
slopes and mountains are represented on a map using contour lines. By studying the contour
lines you can work out lots about the surrounding terrain including gradients of hills, valleys and
Drainage etc.
For hydrological study, defining catchment area is the primary work. It can be done by creating
contour of that area or by reading the contour lines from toposheets.
Practical: Students will be taken for survey and the survey data will be imported using software for
creation of contour lines and defining the catchment area.
c) Hydrological Study
The main objective of the hydrological and hydraulic study is to determine the required size of
drainage structures to allow the estimated design flow of the streams to cross the road safely, and to
check whether waterways of existing structures are sufficient to transmit the flow without risk so that
appropriate decision be taken concerning their rehabilitation.
9
Practical:
Topographic survey data of cross drainage structures
Topographical data and maps of streams, upstream and downstream
Rainfall pattern of the site
Site study of the characteristics of the catchment areas, HFL from local enquiries, and hydraulic
conditions at the existing drainage structures.
d) Drainage
e) Topography
Topography is the study of the Existing features of ground, Ground Level etc. The topography of
an area could refer to the surface shapes and features themselves, or a description (especially their
depiction in maps).
Practical: Students will be taken to site with Total Station for survey. Learning will be Operation of
Instrument, Toposurvey at a interval of 30m and for a stretch of 3km.
After topography survey, the data will be imported to AutoCAD Civil 3D or MX road software. It
will be used for designing highway geometrics, contouring and drainage etc. It helps in creation of
dynamic models and built based on applicable industry-recognized or user-defined standards.

to choose STAAD Pro. tutorial course at CETR instead of available brands like CTTC, CPET and OCAC
etc and here lies our objective.
The introduction of this tutorial into young civil engineers is to make them aware of the essence of
structural engineering, its application in practice including in field requirements at site as well as
introduction and in depth study into the software developed by Bentley including practical exposure to
the working structures which the brand names never provide in their curriculum; in which regard, we are
different from the brand name Institutions already in the scenario. The course objective is to introduce the
learners in to the structural engineering basic concepts, advanced structural engineering including finite
element method, basic uses of software, advanced usage of software, introduction to various design codes
of multiple nations, introduction to ductility, model analysis using software, advanced analysis of
structural elements using the software, introduction to foundation engineering, soil-structure interaction,

SEMINAR
Gone are the days of industrial training; when industries used to help their Engineers with the basic initial
guidance to working. Now-a-days industries across the globe need engineers to deliver right from day
one. However, the academic knowledge that an Engineer possesses after graduation is far from meeting
the professional proficiency. Here comes CETR into picture to help build that bridge and connect to the
real rough project environment.
The main aim of CETR is to provide the students with the latest technologies the CIVIL industry works
on.
