week. You will be starting at minimum wage (which is $12.20). What will your pay be

4. Your buddy Saara works at Swiss Chalet. She earns $13.00/hour. Last week she
worked 50 hours, plus got $150 in tips. How much does she pocket that week? (Hint:
For work more than 44 hours, she got overtime, which was time and a half.) ​(3 marks)

5. Mehul is a subway driver and earns $25/hour regularly. However, if he works on a
holiday, he gets double time and a half. Greg worked 30 hours, PLUS 8 hours on New
Year’s Day. How much did he earn? ​(3 marks)

6. Evelyn works at Shopper’s DrugMart. She is paid $14/hour and time and a half for
overtime (anything over 40 hours). This week she has worked 45 hours. What will her

$14/hx40hr = $560+5OTH = 1.5x$14 = $21.00x5OTH = $105+$560 = $665 that week.

7. Yvonne sells Nine West shoes. She earns 4% commission on all her sales.
Yesterday she sold $1500 worth of shoes. How much commission did she earn? ​(2
marks)

4% commision = 0.04 x $1500 = She earned $60 in commission.

8. Omar sells electronics. He earns 10% on all his sales. If he sold $3500, how much
commission did he earn? ​(2 marks)

10% commission = 0.10 x$3500 = He earned $250 in commission.

9. Zoya sells insurance. She earns $8/hour and 14% commission on all her sales.
Last week, she worked 35 hours and sold $20.58 worth of insurance. How much did
she earn altogether? ​(3 marks)
$8/hx35h = $280 + 0.14x$20.58 = $2.88 = $280 & $2.88 = She earned $282.88 all
together.

10. Lauren sells Tahitian Noni Juice (a health drink). She does not have a monthly
salary, but they give 25% commission on all her sales up to $1500, anything beyond
$1500 is given a 29% commission. How much did she make if she sold $2500 worth of
juice? ​(3 marks)
$1500+$1000 = $2500
0.25x$1500 = $375

11. Sabrina sells hairdressing supplies. She earns a weekly salary of $350, 6%
commission on the first $1000 in sales she makes each week, and 10% commission on
sales over $1000. Determine her weekly salary for the following week. ​(3 marks)

12. Alejandro was a tree planter up north last summer. He is given room and board,
but no salary. For each tree he plants, he earns $1.50. He planted 137,000 trees last
summer. How much did he take home? ​(2 marks)

$1.50/Tree x 137,000 Trees = He took home $205,500.


13. Anna builds wooden pallets. She is paid 35 cents for each pallet she builds. She
can regularly make 1230 pallets in a week. How much does she earn on average every
week? ​(2 marks)

35 Cents a pallet, times 1230 pallets = 0.35x1230 = She earns $430.50 on average
every week.

14. Ladan sells creative memories scrapbook materials. She earns 10% on the first
$1000 of sales and 15% commission on sales above $1000. How much does she make
if she sells $2053.35 in a month? ​(2 marks)

0.10 x $1000 = $100


0.15 x $1053.35 = $158

$100 + $158 = She makes $258 in commission if she sells $2053.35 in a month.

15. Vanessa sells furniture. She receives a monthly salary of $1000 and earns 3%
commission on her sales. Her sales for each week of one month are shown below.
Find her total monthly earnings. ​(3 marks)
