LINE GRAPH
The line graph gives information about the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by each individual in four
countries over a 40-year period from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, the average CO2 emissions of Italy and Portugal showed a steady but significant rise over the
period, while the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by citizens in the UK and Sweden experienced a
downward trend.
In 1967, about 11 tonnes CO2 was released by a Englishman, followed by 9 tonnes in Sweeden. In
comparison, each Italian emitted over 4 tonnes CO2 which was four times as much as that of a
Portuguese. In the following decade, the CO2 emissons per head in both the UK and Sweden hit the
highest point of approximately 10.5, but there was witnessed downward trends over the given period. In
comparison, the figures for Portugal and Italy were lower, at about 2 tonnes and 6 tonnes respectively
and then experienced a rise persistently in the rest of the study period.
By 2007, the UK CO2 emissions per capita was highest. Almost 9 tonnes CO2 emitted by Englishman,
compared to about under 8 tonnes of Italian and only approximately 5 tonnes of both Swedish and
Portugese citizens.
