Triangles Notes

The document discusses the interior angle theorem for triangles. It states that the sum of the interior angles of any triangle is always 180 degrees. If two angles of a triangle are known, the measure of the third angle can be calculated by subtracting the sum of the two known angles from 180 degrees. Several examples are provided to demonstrate using the interior angle theorem to calculate unknown angle measures in triangles.

Notes
Definition of a triangle
A triangle is three line segments joined at
three non-collinear end points.

Angles of a Triangle

-  All triangles have 3 interior angles

- The sum of the three interior angles of a
triangle is 180° a

b c

m<a + m<b + m<c = 180°

Triangle Interior Angle Sum Theorem
aka “Triangle Sum Theorem”

The sum of all three angles of a triangle is always 180°

If you know the measure of two angles, you can
calculate the measure of the third angle

180 = (Angle 1) + (Angle 2) + (Angle 3)

Practice:

Solve for x:

110°

25°

180 = 110 + 25 + x
180 = 135 + x
45 = x
Practice
Find the measure of x.

110

x 35

180 = 110 + 35 + x
180 = 145 + x
35= x
Practice
Find the value of x

37°

180 = 90 + 37 + x
180 = 127 + x
53 = x
Practice
Find the value of x

3x

5x + 2

180 = 90 + 3x + 5x + 2
180 = 92 + 8x
88 = 8x
11 = x
Practice
Find the value of x.
Challenge: Find the measure of each angle.

2x + 10

x x+2

180 = x + 2x + 10 + x + 2
180 = 4x + 12
168 = 4x
42 = x
The angles measure 42°, 44°, and 94°
