This document provides examples of sentences written in active and passive voice and asks the reader to rewrite them changing between the two voices. For the active voice sentences, the reader is asked to make the person the subject. For the passive voice sentences, the reader is asked to use a personal subject wherever possible when changing them to the passive voice. Rewrite the sentences making the person the subject.


– A secret admirer sent her a bunch of roses.
– They didn't pay the actor the money.
– Juliet had made James a delicious meal.
– My parents will buy me a car for my birthday.
– Parents shouldn't give young children soft drinks.
– Have they shown you the new advert yet?
Change these sentences from active to passive. Use a personal subject
wherever possible.
