Faith. This manifest when a Benildean-Lasallian Professional sees, judges and acts from the
perspective of Gospel values and convictions. I may not be able to say that I completely have this
characteristic, but somehow, I can say that I partially embody faith. My practice of faith manifest in
doing what I know is morally and ethically correct. I may not be the most prayerful person, but I
uphold in high regard the importance of being deeply anchored to moral and ethical beliefs
because that makes me what I am and it makes life worth living.
God-centered. This means having a living relationship with God that is nurtured through: valuing
onself as a child of God; recognizing God’s presence in events and in all of creation; having an
authentic prayer life; and living out human and Christian virtues. As I have mentioned, I may not
be a prayerful person but I make it a point to do things that are in consonance to morals and
ethics. Also, it may not be always but whether in good and tough times, I thank God for everything.
With Integrity. To be a person of integrity entails the consistent upholding of one’s commitment to
the common good in thoughts, words and deeds. This may not be true to me at all times because
there may certain situations that may force me to not uphold my integrity. With that, I will aspire
in the future to uphold integrity even during tough times because that’s the real challenge and a
step towards consistency and be a role model to other people.
Socially Responsible. This means promoting the common good by developing awareness and
understanding of social realities, and taking appropriate action. It’s not entirely that I have this
characteristic because sometimes, I just speak out on issues that directly affects and just ignores
those which cannot. This is not a good characteristic of mine, but now I take in mind to give equal
attention on issues.
Creative and Innovative. To be creative means having the ability to conceive new ideas, and to be
innovative means constantly improving on existing ideas, products, or processes. This characteristic
may not hold true to me always because sometimes I find myself to just stare of into space. Also,
my “creative and innovative” skills kick in only when I’m with like-minded people. But when I do,
I become immersed in it that I am able to conceive something that is feasible and helpful.
Appreciative of Individual Worth. This means recognizing each person’s inherent value by
embracing diversity, respecting each one’s uniqueness, and contributing to creating a culture of
inclusion. During my stay in the College, this is one of the many learnings that I picked up from
the institution. With its pro-inclusion agenda, I was able to accept and recognize the differences
and uniqueness of people. That despite the differences, the beauty in it was never gone.
Professionally Excellent. This means going beyond what is expected of Benildeans by providing
quality service and creating value for others through a commitment to lifelong learning. This
characteristic is one of the many that can hold true most of the time. When I do things, I do my
best to accomplish them well. If I wasn’t able to do so, I take note of the mistakes, I learn from
them, and I change them.
One with the Plight of the Poor. This means recognizing and upholding the equal dignity of
persons, understanding poverty, its causes, and its many dimensions, and engaging with them for
social development in spirit of compassion. My upbringing and the College helped me continue
and be able to actively do things that help the poor. This is one of the many characteristics I have
that is indispensable. Wherever I go, my heart always goes out for the people in need and in my
own little ways, I try to help them out of their situation or lighten up the burden.
Teamwork. Teamwork benefits a person by allowing himself to do the impossible through the help of
others - by the compounding effects of others’ talents. With confidence, I can say that I’m a good leader
and a good follower. I’m a believer of
Planning and Organizing. Those who have the competence of planning and organizing see the future and
anticipate what is yet to come. They can forecast trends, changes or events that may have a direct impact to
the company.
Commercial and Business Awareness. An ability to see different situations using a commercial or
business lens/perspective. It involves comprehending the different factors that make companies or
businesses successful through buying, selling of goods/products and the delivery of services to various
sectors to determine if “value for money” is reached.
Flexibility and Adaptability. Flexibility entails ready respond to changes or the capacity to adapt to
altered situations while adaptability is a mental discipline that enables a person to react quickly and
productively when changes or situation occur.
Problem-solving. A process of identifying a problem, planning to resolve it, seeing a potential
problem and taking the necessary steps to avoid it or understanding how to resolve a problem and
persuade others to the right steps (Williams, 2008)
Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills. Analytical skills are concerned with the “ability to identify
key factors” in affecting performance, how these factors are interrelated and can be managed.
Professionalism and Ethics. Professionalism are behaviors that are deemed acceptable in the
workplace; it’s also how one person presents him/herself and perceived by colleagues and clients
(duPont, 1993). Ethics, on the other hand, are an expression of standards of right and wrong as
dictated or based by morals and conduct in a specific society (Lamberton and Minor-Evans, 2007).
Information Technology. The information age makes technology advance at a rapid rate,
encouraging workers to be abreast of the latest software and hardware to keep up with the
demands.
