Lesson Plan in Math
GRADE-8
I-OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the learners are expected to:
II-SUBJECT MATTER
III- PROCEDURE
TEACHERS ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY
1.Preparation
Good morning class! Everybody Our Father who art in
stand and Let us pray. Can somebody heaven….
lead a prayer?
a. Review
In the previous meeting we had
discussed about translating verbal
phrase into mathematical expression.
For example: Twice a number 2x -3=1
diminished by three is one.
Very good!
How about, the sum of a number x and X+6=15
six is fifteen?
b. Motivation
Today, you will learn how to
solve age problems. It is important to
learn how to solve age problems if you
want to know the exact age of
something or someone base on the
information being presented, at the
end of the lesson you are expected to
identify the basic steps in solving age
problems easily, but before that let us
first sing the song
“Math jingles”. I will sing it first and
you
will repeat after me.
MATH JINGLE
c. Unlocking of difficulties
Before we proceed let us first
define
Some difficult words and phrases.
The first word is “Older than” “Older than” it means with
greater age compare to
The second word is “Twice as old” something or someone.
“Twice as old” it means the
The third word is “Variable” result of doubling the age of
something or someone.
“Variable” it means a symbol
used to represent an
unknown value.
2. Lesson proper
Today, our lesson is centered on
solving age problems.
Example:
Noli is two years older than Ted and
the sum of their ages is 98. How old is
each of them?
Checking:
X+X+2=98
(48)+(50)=98
98=98
A. Activity
(Show a picture of Zyon, Marah and
Ella)
Zyon wants to know the ages of
Marah And Ella. He knew that Marah is
two years older than Ella and the sum of
their ages is 32. Help Zyon to find the
ages of Marah and Ella.
Step 1:
Let “X” be the age of Ella
Let “X+2” be the age of
Marah
Step 2:
X+X+2=32
Step 3:
X+X+2=32
2X+2=32
2X=32-2
2X=30
2 2
X=15
Ella is 15 years old
X+2
15+2=17
Marah is 17 years old
Checking:
X+X+2=32
(15)+(17)=32
32=32
B. Analysis
How do you feel when you solve age
problem correctly? I feel proud.
C. Abstraction
If you will become a teacher, how will
you going to impart your knowledge about I will assure that I will do my
age problems to your students? very best for them to
understand the lesson
properly.
D. Application
Class, group yourselves into four,
each group must have a leader to
represent and explain the answer of their
group.
The first group will perform the step 1.
The second group will perform the step 2.
The third group will perform the step 3.
The fourth group will perform the
checking.
Is it clear?
But before we proceed, what are the Yes, teacher!
norms that we have to follow during Cooperate with the group,
group activities? observe cleanliness and
teamwork.
( Show a pictures of Angela and Jhonny )
Angela is three years older than
Jhonny, and the sum their ages is 27.
Find both of their ages.
Group 1. Make a
representation
Let “X” be the age of
Jhonny
Let “X+3” be the age of
Angela.
X+3
12+3=15
Angela is 15 years old.
Group 4.
Checking:
X+X+3=27
(12)+(15)=27
27=27
3.Generalization
Class, what did you learned
today? Ma’am I learned the basic
steps of solving age
problems.
IV-EVALUATION
Solve the following age problems and check.
1.Maya is twice as old as Daniella and the sum of their ages is 60. How old
are they?
2.Vincent is two years older than Martin and the sum of their ages is 30.
How old are they?
3.Bryan is one year older than Lorenz and the sum of their ages is 29. Find
both of their ages.
4.Lina is three years older than Neil and the sum of their ages is 43.Find
their ages.
5.Rachel is twice as old as Jean and the sum of their ages is 15. How old
are they?
V-ASSIGNMENT
Solve and prove your answer by checking
Anika is two years older than Moniko, in three years, the sum of their
ages will be 28. Find their ages today.
