ELC550 ASSESSMENTS

ASSESSMENT 1 : ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY (30%)

- Write an annotated bibliography of 300 words using paraphrasing strategies, summarizing


strategies and responding critically to an academic text.
- Students are required to include in-text citations and references adhering to APA format
- 2 hour paper to be done in Week 6.

ASSESSMENT 2 : ARTICLE ANALYSIS (30%)

- Part A – Outline of Article Analysis (15%)


o Prepare an outline consisting of eight main ideas and a minimum of four supporting
details for each main idea based on 4 selected academic texts.

- Part B – Oral Presentation (10%) & Poster (5%)


o To present orally an analysis of the 4 selected articles using poster
o 20 minutes per group

ASSESSMENT 3 : TERM PAPER (40%)

- Part A – Draft of Term Paper (10%)


o To write a draft of a term paper in essay format consisting of :
 A thesis statement (1 mark)
 Eight main ideas with a minimum of four accurately paraphrased supporting
details with in-text citations for each main idea (8 marks)
 Conclusion (1 mark)
 The draft is to be submitted to class lecturer for grading by Week 11 or 12

- Part B – Term Paper (25%)


o To write a term paper of about 700 – 800 words by synthesising information from the
four articles.
o Marks will be awarded based on the following :
 Content (5 marks)
 Language (15 marks)
 In-text citation & reference (5 marks)

- Part C – Portfolio (5%)


o Submit a portfolio consisting of the following :
 An outline of article analysis
 Poster
 Four articles
 Draft of term paper
 Term paper
