environments when used with MTL 7758+ zener barrier. ZI-01RS UNIT MUST BE IN “SAFE” AREA
INSTALLED with “TH” sensor cable in the hazardous area.
Multi-unit enclosures available
General
The single “zone” interface unit type ZI-01 provides end user customers with an effective means of
integrating the “special hazard” digital linear heat sensing cable system with an existing / proposed
Central Fire Alarm Control Panel (manufactured + supplied by others).
The ZI-01 provides (as standard) visual indication of the accurate location of the point of alarm along an
associated length of the “TH” digital linear heat sensor cable. With the units back lit visual display colour
also changing from GREEN to RED when in an alarm state.
FIRE and FAULT output signalling is via solid state volt-free contact outputs, with an additional RS232
communications available with the ZI-01 RS unit option.
ZI-01 (fig.1) and ZI-01RS (fig.2) line drawings are provided for reference.
Value for resistors shown in diagrams above:- end of line : 470 ohms. Alarm and Fault: minimum 330
ohms @ 24vdc.
End of line resistor fitted across sensor cable /interconnecting cable terminal J3 for shipping/delivery.
Description
The interface type ZI-01 has been designed as an low power single zone interface unit for exclusive use
in conjunction with up to 2000m / 6500ft of the type “TH” digital linear heat sensor cable range. The unit
can be powered either by the Central Fire Alarm Control Panel loop (12-36VDC) or from a dedicated (18-
36VDC) supply. The back light and RS232 option are disabled when using the Central Fire Alarm Control
Panel loop to provide the ZI-01 operating supply, due to limitation in available power from the loop.
The LCD display will indicate the abbreviation: “STBY” with a continuous GREEN back light to confirm
supply available and normal operating condition status for the interface, its associated type “TH” digital
linear heat sensor cable and non heat sensitive inter connecting cable – where the interface is to be
located remote from the risk area installed heat sensing cable .
Under open circuit FAULT conditions on the connected “TH” digital linear heat sensor cable and / or
interconnecting cable (where used), the display will change to read “OPEN” and the GREEN back light
will flash.
In an alarm state, the back lit display will change in colour from green to RED, and visually indicate
alternating non – latching “FIRE” and an “xxxx” message (where “xxxx” indicates the location of the alarm
along the heat sensor cable in feet or metres). The FIRE signal WILL be latched at the Central Fire
Alarm Control Panel to which the interface has been connected. Accuracy of the displayed
location is 0.2% or better, plus cable tolerances.
Where non heat sensitive cable is installed (as between the sensor cable protected risk area and
remotely installed interface unit) the electrical resistance of any interconnecting cable can be zero offset
by way of a single “push button” operation.
In the event interconnecting cable is installed in lengths with electrical resistance in excess of the allowed
50 ohms, the LCD display will register “CALE” with a flashing green back light as a calibration error
signal.
