Students will be provided with accommodations and modifications as outlined in their IEP or 504 plan. The teacher will communicate regularly with case managers and support staff. Extra Help: Students are encouraged to schedule time with the teacher for extra help before or after school. Office hours are available daily from 3:00-3:30. Students are also encouraged to form study groups to support each other's learning. Late Work: Late work will be accepted up to one week past the due date with a 10% deduction each day it is late. After one week, late work will no longer be accepted. Absences: It is the student's responsibility to check Google Classroom and contact peers

Course: SWAT

Teacher: Ms. Klenke

Course The Student Technology Innovation and Integration course is a hands-on study of
Description: technology integration in an educational context. Students will be required to assess
problem sets throughout the day and define the best approach to addressing or solving
the problem. In addition to solving problems for students and teachers, students will be
required to complete and maintain several running projects that address problems or
solutions in educational technology integration. The course also provides students with
the opportunity to pursue an independent learning pathway in one of four areas:
innovation, design, entrepreneurship or applications and develop a project which
positively impacts their community. Students will be able to collaborate with outside
businesses and organizations as they develop and implement their projects. To be
successful in this course, students should have a prior understanding of Apple OS,
Microsoft Windows OS, and the iPad iOS.
Learning Employ current technology to investigate, create, communicate, and produce
Expectations ● SWAT students will research the latest developments in educational
technology. They will identify the best types of technology tools to use in an
educational setting. They will design a tutorial demonstrating how to use the
tool as well as an example product, and share their product with a global
audience.
Apply a variety of problem-solving strategies
● SWAT students will take a proactive approach to problem-solving through
experimenting and designing digital products. Students will also troubleshoot
technology problems (both hardware and software) for students and teachers
and will offer multiple solutions to technology-related problems.
Communicate orally & write effectively
● SWAT students will author content for the SWAT blog. Types of content
includes written blog posts, screencasts and podcasts.
Read critically & obtain, evaluate, analyze, and apply data
● Through ongoing research and the development of a personal learning
network, students will be on the cutting-edge of trends in educational
technology. They will curate useful educational technology resources and tools
for teachers and students.
Demonstrate self-control and respect for all individuals
● SWAT students will manage their time and multiple projects effectively,
collaborate with their SWAT colleagues, and provide exceptional customer
service to students, teachers, parents, administration, community members, and
visitors.
Pursue and participate in modes of artistic and creative expression

● SWAT students will demonstrate the creative and innovative use of technology
through designing original digital products.
Exhibit responsible citizenship
● SWAT students will be responsible, work independently, and demonstrate
leadership. They will use social media tools responsibility and will develop a
positive and appropriate online presence. They will serve as role models to
their peers.

Instructional Critical Thinking and Problem Solving


Methods Students will be able to define and identify a variety of problems with technology in an
educational setting. All SWAT students will interpret, question, and evaluate each
problem set as it arises. Once the problem has been defined and addressed, students
will create a digital resource for the Help Desk blog to address future occurrences of
the same problem or problems.

Collaboration across networks and leading by influence


Students will be able to define, recognize and demonstrate use of collaborative or
networked environments. These environments will be used to connect, share and learn
from each other and a larger social network beyond the SWAT Team. As the course
evolves, students will build a personal learning network that they can incorporate into
their own learning.

Agility and Adaptability


Students will be able to adapt to new environments and problem sets. Students will be
able to support and formulate a solution for all problem sets. Students will make
adjustments when their “agenda” does not go according to plan.
Initiative and entrepreneurship
Students will take on a leadership role among their peers. They will be willing to try
new things and independently seek out new opportunities for learning. Students will
develop a vision for their own learning. They will look for creative ways to improve
situations. Students will offer a fresh perspective towards integrating technology in the
classroom and keep CHS moving forward with innovative approaches to teaching and
learning.

Accessing and analyzing information


Students will be able to define, process, and translate problems using all available
resources. Students will be able to evaluate information, both on and offline, and
determine its validity.

Effective oral and written communication


Students will be able to demonstrate professionalism and decorum when interacting
with CHS faculty, staff and student body. Help Desk students will demonstrate

superior written and oral communication skills.

Curiosity and imagination


Students will be able to seek out unique pathways to direct their own learning. Students
will take strategic risks and feel free to explore and experiment with new technology.

Grading Individual Portfolio (Individual Wiki): 40%


Structure: 1. Each week the student presents thorough portfolio entries that serves as a timeline of
the work each student is completing throughout the course of the semester. There is a
clear and distinct connection between the student’s portfolio entries and the work
completed for the SWAT Wiki (Weekly Reflections)
2. The portfolio is specific, comprehensive and reflects on an ultimate theme or goal
the student has set forth.
3. Critical analysis pieces (App Reviews, Tech Articles)
4. The portfolio is organized, easy to navigate, and helps generate a distinct “digital
brand.”
5. Student demonstrates through his/her individual portfolio that he/she is researching
educational technology news and developments i.e. the student cites the sources which
have supported the development of his/her posts for the SWAT Wiki.

SWAT Wiki (Tech Modules) 40%


1. Wiki posts present a comprehensive look at the student’s learning progress from
beginning to end.
2. The student’s presentation of his/her research meets the learning objective or goal
set forth by the student and approved by the instructor and addresses the question:

How will my work contribute to the greater good of society and innovation? How will
my work contribute to the educational mission and vision of Crestwood High School
and a 1:1 learning environment?

Individual Learning Endeavor Module- 20%


1. Students updates progress towards achieving their goal on a weekly basis
2. Student presents evidence supporting he/she is moving towards accomplishing their
established goal; pictures, videos, documents, slides, etc.

Grading Scale:
Pass = 70% – 100%

No Pass = 69% - 0

Semester Tests: There will be no semester tests.

Digital A laptop will be needed.


Considerations
Remediation: Remediation of assessments is offered based on individual circumstances and willingness of
the student to be retaught information.
Redo’s or retakes on assessments are allowed if the student has completed all daily
assignments, has made an effort to prepare, and is willing to meet with the instructor.
Students who do not maintain the “teacher pace” of the course will need to stay after school

Special Students will special needs outlined in their IEP or 504 will have the right to special
Accommodations: accommodations as stated in such plan. Other accommodations will be addressed if
they arise.
Classroom Rules: Discipline will be enforced in accordance with the Crestwood Secondary 7 -12 Student
Handbook. Basic rules for behavior can be seen in students who have the 6 pillars of character.

Cheating Policy: Cheating demonstrates a lack of integrity and character, and is inconsistent with the goals and
values of Crestwood Schools.

Examples of cheating may include the following:


*Copying assignments, or allowing others to copy your assignments
*Giving or receiving answers on a quiz or test
*Talking during a quiz or test
*Wandering eyes during a quiz or test
*Chatting online during a quiz or test
*Looking up answers online during a quiz or test
*Taking credit for group work when the student has not contributed an appropriate
share toward the final result
*Using a cheat-sheet, notes, or other written aid on a quiz or test (when not given
permission
By the teacher)

Consequences of cheating may include the following:


*Receive a zero on the assessment
*Detention
*Parent notification
*Written notification of cheating in the student’s file
