Delta Green: Unholy War

N.Y.C - Metropolitan Opera House

 Agents receive notice to attend the showing of Madama Butterfly along with the appropriate
number of tickets. At the show, they find a cassette tape, an airport locker key, and a burner
phone in a cigarette box taped underneath one of their seats. When played, the following
message is heard:

o "Delta Green surveillance stations have lost track of a Friendly at listening station 2 in
New York City. Michael Ellis, a media relations manager from the Times was brought
into the Program in 2014 but never fully initiated due to his experience. He believed he
was manning a domestic CIA surveillance post in Times Square, listening for domestic
terrorist activity.
o He was supposed to check-in, but the data transmission never came. Then the situation
goes FUBAR – civilians in Times Square see our boy wandering around, naked, and
bleeding from every orifice in his goddamn body... we need you on clean up, stat. Find
out what the hell happened to our Friendly. There's a situation in NYC – follow up on it
until the threats are resolved. You're also going to need to clean up the listening station,
and any evidence on the Friendly. Discredit him. Make sure nothing can be traced back
to the Program.
o You'll be given standard FBI credentials, but don't push them too far. Short notice has
forced us to cut corners to get this resolved as quickly as possible. Ditch anything that
can be linked back to you, I've had to take extreme measures and pull some strings to
keep you all here under official government business for the time being. Good luck,
Agents.
 The airport locker key is located at JFK, and has a key to a black Ford Explorer, which is parked
outside in the long-term parking lot. Additionally, there are black duffel bags in the back with
materials that the agents would be able to use respective to their professions. The FBI cover
creds are also there, along with operation funds, untraceable Glock-22s, and mission dossiers on
the location, the Friendly, and his operation.

Background
 Ellis took it upon himself to actively monitor the listening station, against operation guidelines,
and to the detriment of position at the New York Times. He managed to crack the encrypted
transmissions with the help of hacker Randall Webb and actively listen to the Delta Green
surveillance sites. What he heard eventually pushed him into obsessive paranoia and he pushed
further into his unsanctioned investigation, staking out the sites. He was found by members of
the Fate – a new cultist group that sprang from the recesses of the Catholic Church and headed
by Bishop Ignacio Tandry. Focused on resurrecting the archdevil Levistus, this cult has come
close to accomplishing its goals in NYC.
  The Fate drove Ellis mad, and he descended further into psychosis over the last few weeks.
Eventually, his mind broke with all of the unnatural information he witnessed and he wandered
right into the Fate, who killed him with bloodletting sigils and sent him out as a warning against
any that were watching them.

The Fate

 This cult is newly founded, and is zealous to prove itself in the world of Occult activity by
summoning its patron Levistus. They operate by recruiting women with weak willpower and
psychologically manipulating them into offering themselves as a sacrifice. What they can't
manipulate, they force, and a series of brash kidnappings have also fueled their degenerate
rituals and activities.
 Fate rituals are focused on exsanguination, the more violent the better for their usage.
 The cult was founded by Catholic bishop Ignacio Tandry, who found the Tome of Levistus during
a mission trip to Colombia in 2016. Reading it broke his mind and turned him into a
manipulating psychopath, though he controls it with regular sprees of degenerate ritual killings.
He has recruited others from the church into his cult, which have infiltrated the Roman Catholic
Church of the Epiphany. Delta Green monitors all Catholic churches in NYC as part of a
surveillance program, but have not yet detected the newly formed cabal.
 All members of that specific church are associated with the Fate.

Ignacio Tandry

 A popular priest, he went on a mission trip to Colombia in 2016. His group was captured and
held for ransom by FARC, and when the government stepped in, the rebels fled after shooting
him in the gut. He survived, and found the Tome of Levistus by taking shelter in a cave, bringing
it back to NYC and forming the Fate.
 Promoted to Bishop, he oversees the diocese around NYC and works out of the offices and area
near the Epiphany church.
 A sadistic, cruel, and manipulative person, he has influence among many areas of the city,
including whatever it needs to make kidnapping investigations disappear or to ignore certain
issues of activities taking place at his church. He also is able to get pull with politicians and
corporations, recently gaining funding to expand the church to hide his illicit activities.

Timeline of Events

 2010 – Ellis is medically discharged from Army Intelligence, narrowly avoiding a dishonorable
discharge due to alcoholism.
 August 2016 – Tandry is kidnapped by FARC and left for dead in a mass grave, where he finds
the Tome of Levistus.
 October 2016 – Tandry founds the Fate and soon after commits his first murder.
  December 2016 – Tandry is promoted to Bishop and he sets his cult's HQ at the Epiphany
church.
 July 2017 – As the Fate start their summoning ritual, kidnappings and disappearances begin to
take place. Ellis starts his own investigation after breaking the Delta Green contingency
encryption.
 November 2017 – Agents arrive to investigate.

Michael Ellis

 The Friendly in question is Michael Ellis, a 44-year-old media specialist working for the NYTimes.
He is a combat veteran of Afghanistan – worked as Army Intelligence from 2002-2010 before he
was medically discharged. Positioning a position in the Times, he was targeted by the Program
for his history but never fully recruited. Delta Green approached him in 2014 under cover of
manning a CIA domestic listening station. Running out of a back room in the NYTimes building in
Times Square, his operation was to go in once a week, compile the data that was collected, and
send it via encrypted channel to our covert operations.
 He has never been married and has no children.
 November 7th was supposed to be his weekly check-in, which never happened. November 8th,
10am, he's seen walking around mumbling gibberish in Times Square and covered in blood.
Several dozen eyewitnesses. NYPD respond and detain, but call emergency services. He dies
enroute to NYC Metropolitan and is still within the morgue. City Police are pushing for a
homicide investigation, but currently have no ID.
 He lives in the city – 225th E 9th Street, Normandie Court.

The Investigation
Midtown South Precinct - 357 West 35th Street

 Officers Matt Ryan and Gabriel Hostas called in the EMS. They didn't see where he came from,
there was a slight crowd at 9:58am when they called it in. Dozens of civilians were watching and
the EMS arrived at 10:05, leaving for NYC Metropolitan Hospital.
 They didn't hear anything unusual before the incidence, and saw no one around him. They told
civilians to back away and covered him with a jacket.
 They heard Ellis speaking, didn't really pay attention. A successful Persuasion or HUMINT roll of
20% can convince them to think harder, Officer Hostas can then recall that it was Latin from a
Catholic prayer that he can't discern.
 Commanding Officer Inspector Russel Green wants to push for a homicide investigation and can
possibly blow the cover of the Agents if they push too hard for information as Feds. A
Bureaucracy roll of 20% can convince him to stand down.
NYC Metropolitan Hospital - 1901 1st Avenue

 EMS brought in Ellis at 10:15, pronounced DOA in transit. Ambulance is in biological holding due
to volume of blood. Items such as the stretcher and the equipment inside are also in biological,
waiting for disposal.
 Brian Gallant, Monica Washington, and Evan Sandusky brought in Ellis. Gallant and Washington
attempted to stop the blood loss with multiple first aid kits, gauze, and finally, tourniquets.
However, the bleeding only stopped once the body was literally exsanguinated. EMS crew did
not witness any visible cuts or bruises or bullet holes.
 Blood still covers the entire inside of ambulance 35, and all three first responders are at their
breaking point. They are high strung, in shock, and still attempting to process what they
witnessed that day, and have been placed out of active duty rotation due to psychological
trauma.
 The morgue is currently holding the body. It has already been visited by the NYPD but not
identified, nor autopsied. Successful Surgery or Medicine rolls of 40% can identify key aspects
about Ellis and his death.
o Though official TOD was reported at 10:15, body has experienced accelerated tissue
decay in several days' time, even though it was immediately put into a freezer. It seems
as if the Time of Death is off by a few days, not minutes.
o There are no visible lacerations or open wounds on Ellis' body. His nails have been bitten
down and the skin on his fingers is ripped, either self-inflicted or due to injury.
Consistent with grating or tearing contact.
o Body is pale and gaunt – is has been thoroughly and quickly exsanguinated. Blood seems
to have seeped out of his skin and body openings.
o A few teeth are missing, and others have cavities.
o There is a strange wound on the back on his head, near the base of the ear. It is an
unnatural sigil. Occult 20% identifies it as a Hell Mark. Occult activity often uses
demonology symbols to mark people associated with cults.
 Further study into demonology will link it to a symbol associated with ritual
sacrifice, specifically as a creature marked for sacrifice.
o Interior study will reveal that his organ tissues have been lacerated hundreds of times in
every area, leaving a disgusting and appalling sight. Any agent that sees the inside of
Ellis must make a SAN check for 1/1d4 Sanity loss. NPCs immediately lose 1 Sanity from
witnessing the sight.
 If compared with any cases of previous deaths, a Search of 40% coupled with at least 2 hours of
going through unsolved case files or John Doe cremations will reveal an abandoned homicide
investigation with a matching symbol. A similar case of exsanguination turned up October of
2016 on an unidentified man. Photographs of the body and symbol can be found at the
Midtown Precinct. Body was found in the south shore of the East River.

Michael Ellis' Residence - 225th E 9th Street

 Ellis lives at Normandie Court, a 34-floor, four-tower, midtown apartment complex. He has
leased a 1-Bedroom in Tower A on the 23rd floor since 2011. He has no pets, family, or vehicle
registered to his name. Lease documents show that his rent for $2,400 has always been paid on
time, with exception of 1 unpaid for November, and 2 late in October and August.
 The doorman and concierge yield easily to the Agents if shown badges, and the apartment key is
given over.
 Ellis' apartment is a spacious 1 bedroom with a view of the southern midtown. Entering into the
apartment has the open kitchen on the immediate right side and the split-level living room
behind a bar-style countertop. A hallway going from east to west branches off into a bathroom,
a bedroom, and an office.
o The kitchen is an open plan room, with a countertop island and cabinets and shelving
along the wall. There is a disarray around the wall countertops with blotchy messes of
spilled takeout food and dirty dishes. The sink is piled up with garbage and rotten food.
The fridge has bottles of alcohol and old, stale food. Inside, Agents find a pint of blood.
Forensics determines that it is Ellis' own blood.
o The living room has been turned into a dumping ground for everything else in the
apartment. Drawers are upturned here, nightstands, shelves, clothes, and chairs have all
been moved and shoved into the room. The 10ft wide floor-to-ceiling window has been
cracked in several spots. A baseball bat with scratches can be seen lodged through the
screen of the flatscreen television.
o The bathroom hasn't been cleaned in a while. Forensics or Search of 30% can find anti-
psychotics in the medicine cabinet, dosage lasting to the end of 2017 but hasn't been
taken in 3 months. Prescribed by Dr. Eric Weissman from Metro Health for
schizophrenia. There are three human teeth in a pill bottle, Ellis' own. The bathtub
smells like bleach, proper lighting shows that trace amounts of blood were scrubbed
away here.
o The bedroom is a ghastly sight. The bed has been moved into the middle of the room
and the shades are drawn. Lighting fixtures have been moved to the wall and the walls
are covered with newspapers, printed papers on demonology, and pages from the bible,
circled and scrawled. Written in thick sharpie lines, another blood, and another with
chalk, are the words:
 "The Heart of Man plans his way but the Lord Devil establishes his path."
o Agents will make another SAN check at the risk of losing 0/1 for witnessing such an
unnatural scene. Any documents recovered here are simply demonology studies from
various sources. CD's have been snapped in half and stabbed into the wall, leading into
the office, where a computer has been set-up. A Craft (Microelectronics) check of 40%
will be able to recover information on the CDs, which is corrupted and unrecoverable
data bits with a Delta Green contingency encryption.
o The computer is off, but hacking into it can be done relatively easy with a Computer
Science or SIGINT skill proficiency.
 Emails from his work at the NYTimes indicating his apparent tardiness over the
last three months as well as projects he has missed
 A conversation between him and NYU Computer Science Professor Randall
Webb, regarding breaking encryption logs. The data sent matches that of the
 Delta Green contingency encryption if it has been previously identified. A
Computer Science or Forensics of 40% can verify the sender. Otherwise, the
conversation indicates that the data is now accessible and that Ellis has paid
Webb $500 for billable hours.
 Audio recordings of mundane conversations between many sets of people,
hundreds of hours' worth, from various parts of the city. Likely what the
listening post has recorded.

Old New York Times Building – 620 8th Avenue

 The building where the covert Delta Green listening station is at. Walking through Times Square
can get the Agents there directly, though they will need to convince the security guards at the
entrance to let them in. Federal paperwork will get them through. Most the of the building is
vacant, save for a Walgreens Pharmacy on the first floor. Access to the hidden room can be
gained through a stairwell with an access code (provided in the dossier) into a large hallway on
the 7th floor. There is another door with an access code (which is also provided) and it leads into
a moderately sophisticated room filled with electronics.
 Server racks line an entire wall, leading into electronic equipment and automated relays and
networks that process information and send it out. Last week's package was left undelivered,
and there is a query still left on one of the computer screens indicated that data was
successfully transferred. All data through here is encrypted, though if the encryption is broken
via the techniques discovered earlier from Webb or Ellis' apartment, it shows that Delta Green
has been monitoring every Catholic Church in NYC under an umbrella surveillance program
named 'Project Confession'.
 A-Cell compartmentalizes the information if contacted.
 Agents can find out that Ellis stopped receiving communication from all but two churches in the
city – Roman Catholic Church of the Epiphany, and Our Lord and Savior of the Cross, both
located midtown. Listening bugs and hidden video provides surveillance in the interior main
rooms of both churches.
 Ellis' clothes and wallet can be found here, stuffed into a duffel bag. His wallet has $89 in cash, a
few credit cards with recent purchases for headphones, binoculars, and recording equipment. It
also has a piece of paper with 'Psalm 144:1' scrawled on it. His clothes include a necklace of a
cross.
 Ellis has left a few cans of Red Bull strewn about, along with blankets, a change of clothes, and
several books on the occult, intelligence gather, codebreaking, and a copy of the Bourne
Identity. None of them are topical or useful on demonology, though the Bourne Identity has had
the pages hollowed out to hold a loaded 9mm pistol. Attempting to trace the pistol through law
enforcement channels will reveal it was reported stolen in August. It previously belonged to Julia
Daily, a co-worker of Ellis.
