Oral Test (Read & Speak) Notes

The PT3 Oral Test has two sections. Section A involves reading one of three texts aloud and being assessed on pronunciation, fluency, and awareness of audience and context. Section B involves responding to one of ten spoken interaction questions or topics by discussing it with the examiner. Students will be prompted further if needed. Sections A and B each contribute 30 and 20 marks, respectively, to the total oral test marks over a 10 minute duration.

THEME: PT3 Oral Test

Section A - Reading Aloud


Format of PT3 Oral Test Students will choose one out of THREE (3) texts to be read aloud in front
of the teacher.

The students will be assessed based on the following:


1. Pronunciation and articulation;
2. Fluency and rhythm;

be the teacher but purpose and context depends on the type of
(Speaking) (Listening) passage the student is reading.)

PROMPTS
 Do you have a hobby?
 Can you tell me something about your hobby?
 What are the benefits of having a hobby?
 Imagine one of your friends wants to take up a hobby. Suggest a
hobby your friend could take up.
 Why would you suggest this hobby?
If the students do not understand the prompts given, the examiner is
allowed to paraphrase the question and ask other questions to scaffold
the students.
