““How’s your weekend, class?” “It’s okay, Ma’am.”

“Oh, okay. That’s good.”
“I think I have given you an assignment last
time. Please pass them to your right then
submit it forward.”

“What was our last topic? Yes, Arielica?” “Our last topic is the Nature of Academic
Writing.”

“What is all about that?” “Academic texts should be communicative,

fact based, and objective.”

“Okay, thank you. I hope you have considered

them in your assignments because you will be
graded by those criteria.”

“Girls most likely do well in academics during

high school years but boys get ahead of them
in college.”

“Female teenagers are more concerned with

their physical appearance than male teen
agers.”

What is your stand about this?” (The students will do their activity).

“If you question the validity of the statements

and find evidence and facts about what you
read, then you are one step closer to
becoming a critical reader.”

“What comes into your mind when you

hear/read the term Critical Reading? Active?
Process of discovery? Group yourselves into
five and come up with meaning of terms.”

“After you have plotted ideas, come up with

your own definition of critical reading. And let
us all together agree with one specific
definition. I’ll give you 10 minutes to share
your ideas.”

“Okay time’s up. What is your own definition of (The students will read their answers).
critical reading?”

“Critical reading is an active process of

discovery because when you read critically,
you are not just receiving information but also
making an interaction with the writer.”

“It means that you validate the concepts of the

author, asserts or disapprove the statement
and create a better idea for a clearer
perspective”.

“These techniques will help you become a

critical reader.”

Annotate what you read. “It means that we highlight the main points in

concepts that may be related to the text.”

Outline the text. You have learned this one

before. But this time we will have another set
of format.

First we have the Thesis Statement. Thesis

statements are the major point or introduction
in the article. When we say introduction or
main idea, it tells us what the article is all
about.

If we have a Thesis Statement, we also have

supporting details. These are the sentence
that supports the main idea. As easy as that.

the first two steps that we discussed, then later
we will proceed to the next 2 techniques. Go.

“It’s already time, stand and let us pray. Prayer Heavenly Father we thank Thee for this day.
leader, please stay in front.” We thank Thee for what we have learned
today. Please continue to guide us as we take
our snacks and please keep us safe. Help us
strive for the better version if ourselves every
day. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.”
