20.Under UMS mode, no one is allowed to enter in the E/R except the duty engineer, without the permission from Chief
Engineer.

21.“DEAD MAN ALARM” is NOT fitted in this ship. For UMS rounds, Duty Motor Man must always accompany Duty
Engineer.

22.All personnel entering the E/R shall be properly equipped with the PPE i.e. full sleeve boiler suit, safety shoes, helmet
& ear muffs, hand gloves etc.

23. Before putting the Engine room in UMS condition the Duty Engineer will take a complete round of the machinery
spaces and must carry out the inspections and UMS routines as per the UMS checklist .

24.Night rounds during UMS periods would be taken not before 2100hrs. An entry in the logbook must be made
mentioning the compliance of UMS checklist during night rounds.

25.After attending alarm during UMS period, duty engineer must inform bridge while leaving Engine Room and after
reaching in his Cabin.

26.Exhaust Gas Boiler soot blower is in AUTO mode, which is set at 2 hrs intervals. Manual soot Blowing should be
carried out prior putting Engine Room under UMS

27.Regular rounds should be taken in AC blower room on UPPER deck

28.All Double Bottom tanks sounding pipes, self-closing valves and screw caps should be kept in CLOSE position all the
time after using it.

29.All lube oil tanks gauge glasses, self-closing isolating valves should be kept CLOSED all the time.

OPEN SEA CONDITION


During normal voyage open sea conditions, the engine room shall remain unattended from a period of 1700 hours to 0800
hours and from 1200 hours to 1300 hours. The designated duty engineers are 1AE,2AE,and 3AE.
All personnel to follow the UMS guide lines strictly during UMS operation.

F. BUNKERING:
Bunkering and internal transfering FO are a CRITICAL OPERATION, as a small error/ lapse on the part of the personnel
carrying out the operation, can lead to the pollution. All personnel must carry out the duties assigned efficiently, as heavy
fines to the vessel , and fines & possible imprisonment to the erring personnel are involved.
The Bunkering and internal transfering FO operation procedures to be followed strictly .1AE shall ensure that concerned
personnel are sufficiently rested and all gear kept ready well before the operation. No major maintenance jobs are to be
planned during Bunkering .

COLD WEATHER PRECAUTIONS:


This being an ice class ship all personnel are requested to exercise all precautions and take necessary steps to prevent
damage due to cold weather conditions.
1AE to ensure that all personnel have proper protective gear especially when working on the deck to protect against cold
weather.
He has to make sure all fresh water and fire lines are drained in the engine room also and proper warning notices posted
against starting of pumps etc.
Steam tracing is to be ensured for all fuel and water lines which are susceptible to cold drafts

Duties of Electrical officer:


1.He will plan his jobs in consultation with CE and report to him any defects which will require immediate attention
2.He is to always keep 1AE fully informed about his days job schedule/progress, and
keep duty engineer informed about his where about when working out side the engine room.
3.He is to position himself in the engine control room, 30 minutes before the standby, unless instructed by chief engineer
and be available throughout the maneuvering, keep a good check on machinery, assist in writing the movement book.
4.He is to ensure all the electrical equipment and running machinery is maintained in
good order , and non-running machinery are kept in stand-by mode as required.
5.He is to check air conditioning plants, refrigeration plant, electrical and pneumatic controls, take rounds of provision
rooms and ensure all are working satisfactory.
6.In case of other departments reporting electrical defects, he is to inform chief engineer, and in consultation with chief
officer , make work plan / work permits as required.
7.All big motors insulations to be checked if it is to be started after long time.
8.Life davit Motors insulation to be checked before lowering.
