04 Beyond The Basic Prductivity Tools Lesson Idea Template 1

This lesson plan is for a kindergarten science class and addresses standards about sorting living and non-living things. It uses various technology tools like Popplet, Discovery Education, PowerPoint, and Word. The lesson will have students sort living and non-living items using these tools, compare similarities and differences, and create a final project comparing organisms. The teacher will assess students during the lesson, provide feedback on projects, and allow publishing to a class blog. The teacher feels the technology integration supports student engagement and motivation to learn about classifying living and non-living things.

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten

Content Standard Addressed:

SKL1: Students will sort living organisms and non-living materials into groups by observable physical
attributes.
SKL2 Students will compare the similarities and difference in the groups of organisms.

Technology Standard Addressed: (4) Innovative Designer: Students use a variety of technologies within a
design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.

Selected Technology Tool: Popplet(preferred), Discovery Education, Power Point, Microsoft Word

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☐ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☒ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Using Beyond-the -basic productivity tools addresses UDL principles of engagement, representation, and
expression through the mode the teacher presents the lesson. Accessibility to all learners by: enlarging the
text, turning on closed caption, and by using visuals and auditory videos and interactives. Addressing each
style of learning will keep the students engage and motivated about finishing the lesson. Students will achieve
a higher level of understanding by thinking critically and creating via their choice pf productivity tool.
Lesson idea implementation:
I will address the standards of the lesson by stating the I Can statement at the start of the lesson, which is: “I
can sort living and non-living organisms. Using a mystery box filled with living and non-living representations I
will define various vocabulary words through demonstration such as organism and sort because this will help
the students with the content and learning objective for the lesson. I will use a student response tool called
plickers to do a pre-assessment on the student’s knowledge of living and non-living things. I will assess
immediately and adjust my lesson.
The students will interact with the content lesson Build Builder through Discovery Education with me. The
students will then sort living and non-living organism using their choice of beyond -the-basic-productivity tool
after we have collaborated on creating a popplet similar to my Living/ Non-Livng Popplet. The students final
project will be to choose at least tow but no more than five organisms to compare similarities and
differences. The final projects will be uploaded to the classroom’s blended learning software where I will give
feedback, then allow students to publish on our classroom blog if they choose.
Reflective Practice: After completing this lesson idea I feel empowered by the ISTE standards and I feel that I
can retain my student’s attention and motivation through this lesson because there are many avenues in
which they will benefit while learning the content.
