Clapper Block

The clapper block is a sub-assembly of the shaping machine tool head that holds the cutting tool. It consists of a swivel plate attached to the machine head slide and a drag release plate that relieves pressure on the tool during the return stroke. The drag release plate carries the tool holder which secures the tool via a clamping screw.

Clapper Block
It is a sub-assembly of the tool head of a shaping machine. It is used for holding the shaper
cutting tool. The design of the clapper block is such that it relieves the tool during the return
stroke. The following figure shows the details of a clapper block. This consists of a swivel
plate 1, attached to the vertical slide of the tool head of the shaping machine. The drag release
plate 2 relieves the tool during the return stroke. The drag release plate carries the tool holder
4 and the tool is fixed in it by means of the tool clamping screw 5. The washer 6 is used over
the drag release plate for providing even bearing surface to the tool
Assemble all parts of the clapper block for a shaping machine, shown in the figure and
draw,
(i) Full Frontal view,
(ii) half sectional view from the left
