Showing Concern Picture Cards

This document introduces 22 picture cards meant to be used with accompanying "how to" picture panels to teach children how to respond to people in distress. The cards and panels can be used together for role playing exercises where children and adults take turns pretending to be the distressed person so children can practice responding appropriately. Videos of the role plays can then be reviewed for assessment.

22 Picture Cards for Showing Concern

These are designed to be used in combination with another

free resource, “how to” picture panels for showing concern:

To use these resources:

*Use the how-to panels to teach the basics about responding

to a person in distress

*Practice, using the Picture Cards (either by showing them on

your computer, projecting them, or printing them out). You,
the adult, can pretend to be the person in distress shown in
the cards. Children take turns practicing responding to the
person in distress.

Alternatively, a child can pretend to be the person in distress

while another person practices assisting them.

It works well to shoot short videos of children practicing this

skill, and then play back the video clips for assessment and
critique.
