Pks Fizik Tugasan B

This experiment aims to determine the specific heat capacity of water. The apparatus used includes an immersion heater, thermometer, power supply, stirrer, triple beam balance, stopwatch, and beaker. The procedure involves measuring the mass of an empty beaker and beaker filled with water, recording the initial and final temperatures after heating the water for 300 seconds at 50 watts of power while stirring. The calculations use the formula for specific heat (pt=mcΔT) to determine the specific heat capacity of water is 4200 J/kg°C. Precautions include placing the heater at the bottom of the beaker to ensure even heating, stirring the liquid to maintain a uniform temperature, and positioning the eye

Task 3.1.1
Tugasan 3.1.1

Aim : To determine the specific heat capacity of water

Apparatus and material :
immersion heater, thermometer, power supply, stirrer, tripple beam balance , stopwatch, 
beaker.

Arrangment of apparatus and material :

Procedure
:
Prosedur
1. The mass of empty beaker , m is measured and recorded.
2. 500 ml of water is poured into the 1000 ml beaker. 
3. The mass of the beaker with water , m is weighed and recorded.
4. The power of heater, P is recorded.
5. The electric heater, thermometer and stirrer are put into the beaker through a hole on the lid.
6. The initial temperature of the liquid, θ1 0C is recorded.
7. The heater is switched on and silmutaneously the stopwacth is started.
8. The heater is placed at the bottom of the beaker so that thermal convection currents can occur and
spread throughtout the liquid.
9. After t seconds , the heater is switched off and the final temperature, θ2 0C is recorded.
10. The temperature increment, θ = θ2 – θ1 is calculated. 
Result :

: m1 kg
The mass of the empty beaker , m

: m2 kg
Mass of the beaker and water

Mass of water
: (m1 – m2) kg 
: 33 0C
Initial temperature

: 100 0C
Final temperature

(100 – 33) kg
Temperature change, θ
50 watt

Power of the heater
300 second
Heating time

Calculation :
Pengiraan :

pt = mcθ 
c = (50)(300) / (0.2)(100-33)  ( sub.)
c = 4200 J kg 0C-1  

Precaution
1. The heater is placed at the bottom of the beaker so that thermal convection currents can occur and
spread throughtout the liquid.
2. The liquid is stirred during the experiment to ensure the temperature of the liquid is uniform.
3. The position of eye must be perpendicular to the scale of thermometer to avoid parallax error
