What Is Your Understanding About Faith and Reason?

Faith and reason are often seen as contradictory, but both pertain to belief. Reason uses evidence to derive logical conclusions about what is true or false, while faith is trusting in something without evidence. For example, believing that a historical figure existed can be backed by evidence, while believing in God's existence relies more on faith or trust even without proof. Faith can also mean either completely believing in God without evidence or not believing at all. The document also discusses issues with humanism in the Philippines. It states that humanism emphasizes human potential to solve problems independently, and that the main problem in the Philippines is poverty. However, Filipinos remain dependent on religion, government, and sometimes try to pull others down rather

What is your understanding about faith and reason?

Reason is defined as the process by which a person derives a conclusion whether

it is true or false. Faith, however, is the decision to put one’s trust in whatever they have
decided is true. Faith and Reason are two words contrary with each other but both
pertains to same subject, which is belief. Let’s say for example, “I believe that President
Emilio Aguinaldo existed” is different from “I believe in God”. Both of the examples
pertains to a belief, however, it differs because of the words “that” which presents a
reason and “in” which expresses a more complicated explanation. The first sentence
clearly shows that the existence of President Emilio Aguinaldo, can be true or false. The
reason for this belief can be clearly backed up by number of factual evidence like history
books, history museums, statements from historians, his picture on the five peso bill, etc.
On the second sentence, it can be depicted through two directions: first, I believe that
God exists because of the bible, and second, I have faith that God exists even if the bible
is uncertain because I trust Him and I am confident that He is always there for me.
Furthermore, faith can only mean two things: you believe in God 100% without any
evidence and conditions or you don’t believe in God.

The problem of Humanism in the Philippines.

Humanism is a way of thinking & living that emphasizes the belief that human
beings possess the potentiality of solving their own problems. I believe that the very
problem of the Filipino people is POVERTY. In Humanism, it stresses the fact, that we
human beings are capable of changing the world and that we have the power to make
a difference in changing our lives. However, there are certain problems why Filipinos until
now were not able to potentially grow & develop their individuality. First, Filipinos are too
dependent on religion. It is statistically concluded by the Asia Society that 86% of Filipinos
belonged to a religious group. For example, religious Filipinos are against Reproductive
rights. And according to humanists, it is very important to pass the Reproductive Bill to be
able to save Filipinos from poverty. Religious people, however insists to abolish the
Reproductive Bill because of their faith that according to scriptures people should
reproduce and multiply. Second, Filipinos are also dependent on the government. They
either accept whatever the gov’t can give or blame the gov’t for what they cannot give.
Lastly, Filipinos are said to have a crab mentality. Instead of pulling and empowering
themselves up, they always want to make other people’s lives less successful.
