Welcome!
Welcome to the Introduction to ANSYS Mechanical Part 2 training course!
This training course extends the basics of using ANSYS Mechanical from the
coverage in Introduction Part 1.
It is assumed that attendees have completed ANSYS Mechanical Introduction
Part 1 or possess the equivalent experience.
Course Objectives:
– More in depth coverage of various topics introduced in part 1 of this series.
– Procedures for streamlining FEA simulations through the use of more advanced
tools and techniques.
– Topics covered here are also quite useful as a precursor to more advanced ANSYS
Mechanical training courses

B. ANSYS EKM - Engineering Knowledge Manager
• What is ANSYS EKM?
– ANSYS Engineering Knowledge Manager (EKM) is a web-based multi-user
collaborative product that is aimed at meeting the simulation data and process
management challenges faced by our customers. EKM is tightly integrated with
other ANSYS simulation offerings and it can also be very easily integrated with
other simulation codes including legacy and competitor’s software.

•What is ANSYS EKM Desktop?


– ANSYS EKM Desktop is a single user, local environment version of EKM. It is
available as part of ANSYS R13 release and it can be accessed via Workbench.
EKM Desktop is focused at meeting the challenge of “re-using existing
simulations” and thereby increasing simulation productivity and efficiency.

1. Click Submit Support Request
2. Click Submit/Update technical support request
3. Under My Service Requests, click New

D. ANSYS Workbench Review

The ANSYS Workbench platform is a framework upon which ANSYS has developed
a suite of advanced engineering simulation applications. Workbench incorporates
bi-directional CAD connectivity, pervasive parameter management and integrated
optimization tools.

The following is a brief review of Workbench (see Introduction Part 1 for in
depth coverage).
For most situations the Workbench GUI is divided into 2 primary sections, the
Toolbox and the Project Schematic.

The Workbench project schematic is a graphical representation of the workflow
defining a system or group of systems.
From the toolbox a selection can be dragged and dropped onto the schematic (or
double clicked).

By dropping applications and/or systems into various locations in the schematic,
an overall analysis project is defined.
In the example below a structural system is dragged and dropped onto a thermal
system forming a coupled thermal/structural analysis.

the Workbench environment.

Archive: quickly generates a single compressed file
containing all pertinent files.

• File is zip format (.wbpz) and can be opened using the


“Restore Archive . . . ” utility in WB2.
