TPGP
TPGP
Goal One: Develop clear and specific expectations and routines with students
KSAs:
-1: How contextual variables affect teaching and learning
-5: All students can learn, albeit at different rates in different ways
-7: Students’ needs for physical, social, cultural and psychological security
-8: Importance of respecting students’ human dignity
Strategy 1: Lead a class discussion about positive expectations and routines
Strategy 2: Develop and establish specific expectations and routines with students, centered
around previous class discussion
Strategy 3: Encourage expectations in all students. Model and incorporate expectations by
recognizing students who are exhibiting said expectations. Reinforce routines
Indicator 1: Collectively develop and write a list of expectations that students can refer to and
feel ownership towards
Indicator 2: Keep track of how often students follow set expectations and routines. This can
either be done privately (keep a tally on my own) or as a class (reward system). Reflect on this
and adjust strategies as needed.
Resources:
-Discuss with TM effective routines
-Anchor charts of expected behaviour
-Visual schedule
Timeline:
September – Complete strategy 1 and 2, start strategy 3; reflect on strategy 1 and adjust if
needed; complete indicator 1, start indictor 2
October – Continue strategy 3; reflect on strategy 2 and 3 and adjust as needed; continue
indicator 2
November – Continue strategy 3; reflect on strategy 3 and adjust as needed; continue indicator 2
December – Continue strategy 3; reflect on strategy 3 and adjust as needed; continue indicator 2
Goal Two: Broaden and deepen my own knowledge of classroom strategies through research
and observation of other teachers
KSA:
-5: All students can learn, albeit at different rates in different ways
-7: Students’ needs for physical, social, cultural and psychological security
-9: There are many approaches to teaching and learning
-16: The important of guiding your actions with a personal, overall vision of the purpose of
teaching
Strategy 1: Invite my TM, other teachers, administrators, and EAs to observe my class and
provide feedback on my classroom management
Strategy 2: Observe my TM’s class, as well as other teachers in the school
Strategy 3: Read credible articles and texts on classroom management, specific to my students
age and needs
Indicator 1: Receive feedback and engage in open discussion after observations to determine
what is working best for myself and others and what can be changed and improved on. During
each observation I will write notes and a reflection. When discussing my classroom management
with those who observe me, I will take notes on their feedback.

-Classroom Management: A Thinking and Caring Approach by Barrie Bennett
Timeline: All three strategies will be ongoing throughout my practicum. I will have someone
observe me once a week, I will observe someone else at least once a week, and I will devote a
minimum 20 minutes per day to reading the texts mentioned above.
Goal Three: Practice regular and deep reflection on current classroom management and
strategies used
KSA:
-5: All students can learn, albeit at different rates in different ways
-9: There are many approaches to teaching and learning
-15: The importance of career-long learning
-16: The important of guiding your actions with a personal, overall vision of the purpose of
teaching
Strategy 1: Discover new strategies and record current experiences about what is working and
what is not; do not hesitate to discontinue a strategy that is not or no longer useful or effective
Strategy 2: Accept and understand that there are numerous strategies and approaches to
classroom management and that what may work for one teacher in one class, may not work for
another in another class.
Indicator 1: Purchase and write in a journal once a week that includes broadened knowledge
and personal reflections for accountability.
Resources:
-Classroom management texts listed in Goal Two
-A journal
Timeline: This will be ongoing throughout my entire practicum. I will engage in informal, daily
reflection and formal, weekly reflection throughout September to December.
