Required materials: All art materials will be provided. Occasionally students

will be asked to bring in items of interest from home for collage or still-life
projects.

Course Description:
Prerequisite: Elements of Drawing and Painting (or permission of the instructor)

This course will expand upon the media of drawing, painting, and printmaking
from the Elements of Drawing and Painting class. Further emphasis will be
given to the importance of research and the creation of the google slides for the
artist as both a means of documentation and synthesis of ideas. Students will
take greater responsibility for developing project ideas by combining their
knowledge of materials with their own personal research. Regular class
critiques will help students develop their understanding of the visual language
and inform their artistic decision-making process.

Course Goals: Try. Take risks – you have support.

Have fun!
Think in new ways. Challenge yourself.
Develop your visual vocabulary.

Grading Policy:
Most assignments will be worked on in class and evaluated through a
combination of self and teacher evaluation. Rubrics for grading will be
developed by instructor but discussed and agreed upon by class to insure that
all criteria and expectations for projects are understood. We will have
sketchbook assignments, which will be completed outside of class time or when
there is down-time at the beginning or end of class that will be graded by the
instructor. There will also be a weekly work ethic grades. The final grade will be
based on total points accumulated from various assignments throughout the
semester. Assignments will carry varying point values. These values will be
shared prior to each assignment.
Grade Penalty: For sketchbook/google classroom assignments, which are due
on a certain day and time, grade penalty will be assessed one letter grade for
every late day and then a zero will be given after 3 days. If you are absent from
school for the entire day for an excused absence, no penalty will be given
provided you turn in the assignment when you return.

Tutorial: There will be supervised open studio opportunities after school on

selected days and weekends. Which all students are welcome to attend.

Assignment Posting: Assignments and project deadlines will be posted on the

in our shared Google classroom. We will also be using Google classroom, to
share information, hand in assignments, and participate in critiques.

Classroom Expectations/Procedures:

Personal electronic devices may only be used with permission of the instructor.

Adherence to the Student Code of Conduct is expected.

Respect others and their work. You are expected to conduct yourself within the
guidelines of the honor system. A class discussion will be had in regards to how
specifically honor and plagiarism apply to art.

materials.

If in-class projects require additional time for completion, students are expected
to schedule studio time on their own, outside of normal class meetings.

Students will be expected to clean-up the mess they make.

It is recommended that students keep an open mind when their work does not
turn out as planned and see if they can alter their plans to create something
better than they expected. (Cheese was invented by accident)

Extra credit can be earned by way of optional class meetings at galleries, artist
