KNOW YOUR DIAMOND
Each diamond is classified by its 4C’s. Carats, Cut, Clarity, Color.
Carats identify the weight of the diamond that generally identifies a size to the
diamond. Each shape has a cut, in which the optimal balance of the table,
crown, girdle, pavilion and cutlet allow for the best light to enter and reflect
back out of the diamond. Clarity refers to the inclusions found within the
diamonds. Inclusions are generally matters found within the diamond, SI to I
inclusions become visible to the eye. Color, a GIA classified color scheme
allows values to vary, colorless to yellow, an average color variety is generally
found between G to H color range.

Diamonds are measured or weighed in unit carats, as gold is measured in grams. Each carat is
equivalent to 0.200 grams. Carat is an important parameter along with colour, clarity and cut,
which determines the cost of the diamond. The weight of diamonds is measured in the number

Colours of diamonds are graded from colour ‘D’ which is the best colour in the chart, also
known as colourless, and colour ‘Z’ which falls in the light colour category. Like clarity, colour is
also considered to be a strong characteristic of diamonds, which could easily be recognized with
a trained eye. Devji Aurum’s experienced diamond graders carefully keep a watch to maintain
consistency in the selection process to ensure every article shines through the right colour.

fingerprints on each diamond in the form of natural inclusions. The clarity of a diamond is
determined from the level of presence of such natural inclusions found in them. Along with these
levels, it is also important to understand and identify the location of such inclusions, to obtain
the best results in enhancing the overall design.

A professional diamond cutter determines how to space and cut a rough diamond to obtain
maximum yield. The term ‘cut’ refers to both the diamond’s shape and the number of facets,

enhance and provide the correct highlight of the jewel.

ELEMENTS OF SETTING
Designing a perfect setting begins with tailoring a balance between art, comfort
and safety. The elements of a setting are broken down into three aspeCarats -
Prongs, Pegs and Shanks.
A prong is an extension of the pegs that hold the diamond in place. A range of
pegs is available for selection as a personal choice keeping in mind the 4cs of
your stone and how the stone would finally appear on the hand. While the pegs
define a class the shanks provide the strength and comfort to the ring.
