Tissues, Body Systems Concepts: Circulatory System

The document discusses various body systems and tissues. It provides descriptions of the four main tissue types, differences between tendons and ligaments, and comparisons of the three muscle tissue types. It then names and describes the 10 body systems, noting that the circulatory and respiratory systems provide energy to the other eight. Key diseases associated with the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems are also named. The strongest and weakest bones in the body are identified, and differences in bone number between adults and babies are explained.

Tissues, body systems concepts

1. What are the four main types of tissue?

The four main types of tissue are muscle, epithelial, connective and nervous.
2. Tattoo’s are below what type of tissue in the human body? Is it a good idea to get
one?

3. What is the difference between tendons and ligaments?

Tendons may also attach muscles to structures such as the eyeball. A tendon serves to move
the bone or structure. A ligament is a fibrous connective tissue which attaches bone to
bone, and usually serves to hold structures together and keep them stable.
4. Compare the 3 types of muscle tissue. Cardiac, smooth & skeletal.
This helps the heart resist fatigue. Contractions of cardiac muscle are involuntary, like
those of smooth muscle. Cardiac muscle, like skeletal muscle, is arranged in bundles, so it
appears striated, or striped.
5. Name and describe the 10 body systems. Which two provides energy to the 8 body
systems? Provide images for each body system.
1. Circulatory system:
1. Circulates blood around the body via the heart, arteries and veins,
delivering oxygen and nutrients to organs and cells and carrying their
waste products away.
2. Equalizes temperature in the body
2. Digestive system:
1. Mechanical and chemical processes that provide nutrients via the mouth,
esophagus, stomach and intestines.
2. Eliminates waste from the body.
3. Endocrine system:
1. Provides chemical communications within the body using hormones.
4. Integumentary system/ Exocrine system:
1. Skin, hair, nails, sweat and other exocrine glands.
5. Lymphatic system / Immune system:
1. The system comprising a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear
fluid called lymph.
2. Defends the body against pathogenic viruses that may endanger the body
.
6. Muscular system:
1. Enables the body to move using muscles.
7. Nervous system:
1. Collects and processes information from the senses via nerves and the
brain and tells the muscles to contract to cause physical actions.
8. Renal system / Urinary system/ Excretory system:
1. The system where the kidneys filter blood.
9. Reproductive system:
1. The sex organs required for the production of offspring.
10. Respiratory system:
1. The lungs and the trachea that bring air into and out of the body.

11. Skeletal system:

1. Bones supporting the body and its organs.

6. Name three diseases associated with the skeletal system, muscular system and
nervous system.Osteoporosis: This is a disease in which the bones become fragile and prone
to fracture.Fibromyalgia chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain,
fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas, and Cerebral palsy.

7. What is the strongest bone in the body? Where are the weakest bones found in the
body?Your femur is the strongest bone in your body, and weakest is the spine.
8. How many bones are in the human body? How many bones does a 2 month child have?
Why does the baby have more bones?
A baby's body has about 300 bones at birth. These eventually fuse (grow together) to form
the 206 bones that adults have. Some of a baby's bones are made entirely of a special
material called cartilage . Other bones in a baby are partly made of cartilage.
