Waves: Are Wave in Which The Medium Vibrates at Right Angles To The Direction of Its Propagation
A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy through matter or space, with little or no associated mass
transport. Waves consist of oscillations or vibrations of a physical medium or a field, around relatively
fixed locations.
Transverse waves: are wave in which the medium vibrates at right angles to the direction of its
propagation. For example light and electromagnetically waves (radio waves, microwaves, x ray)
Longitudinal waves: are wave that vibrating in the direction of propagation, For example Sound Waves
and Seismic waves P type
The sound waves are a vibration that typically propagates as an audible wave of pressure, through a
transmission medium such as a gas, liquid or solid.
Describe sound waves in terms of pitch and volume, frequency and amplitude
Pitch is a perceptual property of sounds that allows their ordering on a frequency-related scale or more
commonly, pitch is the quality that makes it possible to judge sounds as "higher" and "lower" in the
sense associated with musical melodies, Pitches are usually associated with, and thus quantified as
frequencies in cycles per second, or hertz (f= 1/T T= period, f= number of cycles per unit of time), lower
pitch or low sound f= 20 to 150hz, medium pitch f= 1000hz high pitch > 10000hz.
Volume: When talking about sound waves, the volume is the perception of loudness from the intensity
of a sound wave. The higher the intensity of a sound, the louder it is perceived in our ears, and the
higher volume it has. Since intensity is a function of energy, and energy is related to amplitude, then we
can make the conclusion that the volume of a sound is proportional to the amplitude of the sound wave.
