Example T Beam

The document provides a floor plan showing the arrangement of T-beams spaced 9 meters apart. It includes calculating the effective width of the beams using the formula bw + 0.2λx, where bw is the actual flange width, λ is the spacing between beams, and x is the distance from the support. Applying this formula to the given plan yields an effective width of 2050 mm, but the actual flange width is 2000 mm, so the effective width is 2000 mm.

Given the floor plan showing the arrangement of T-beams, calculate the effective width

of the beam.

T-Beam T-Beam T-Beam

bw = 250mm
2.0 m 2.0 m

You should get the answer as shown below.

bw  0.2x  250  0.2(9000)

= 2050 mm

Actual flange width = 2000mm

The effective width, b is the lesser of these values i.e.

b = 2000 mm
