SAMPLE OF LITERATURE REVIEW

The review of related literature and studies provides a wider spectrum in understanding
individuals and societies they create. The review reveals the transcendental value of folklore
which has primarily influenced the dynamics of society.

Goldstein1 provides a guide in folkloric studies that indicates the folklore processes and
ideas that must be adopted by field workers. In addition, many critical problems and issues
involved in field work such as problem formulation, pre-field preparations, the establishment of
rapport to informants, observation-collecting methods, interview-collecting methods, and the
techniques in motivating informants are raised.

Dolby2 and Seward3 recognize the contribution and influence of folklore on liberal arts
education. Hence, Workman4, Wilson5, and Bauman6 say that the dynamic aspects of folklore
can in turn be used to reposition other disciples since many of which are linked to it. They
further assert that folklorists and other scholars need to work together to teach across
disciplines, imparting students a better understanding of each discipline. Brandy specifically
points out that the growing interest in postmodernism, ethnic literature and cultural studies
makes folklore a vital part of understanding much of what is being taught in literature classes.
