directions. Question1: Could you tell me how

Answer: From this room you can
turn right then, turn left and follow
the way. As you get there you can
see many students. That’s the place
you are looking for.

Question2: Excuse me, How can I

go to Gaisano?
Answer: Gaisano Mall was about
100 meters away from here. From
PNHS you can go straight ahead or
you can ride on a tricycle.

After they had read the given situation I

will asked them these following questions: (Students will answer.)

Have you encounter someone who asked

help from you about direction? Yes, he approached me and asked
me about direction.
 What did you do to help them? I give him/ her direction he /she
needs. I gave clear information about
the place and after that he/ she said
thank you.
D. Discussion and Presentation

Imperative- it is used to give commands,

instructions and orders. In this structure we do
not need to use the subject anymore because
the sentence is started with a verb or verb
phrase and “don’t” is used for the negative
form.
PATTERN
 Positive Imperative – encourages
action or directs that something
happen.
Ex. Write your name on the sheet.
Read chapter 5 for tomorrow.
Be quiet!
 Negative Imperative- indicating that
something should not happen or not
desired.
To use the negative form add the
word “don’t” before the infinitive
without to.
Ex. Don’t write your name.
Don’t read that book.
Don’t bring food to the class.

Form an imperative sentence in the following

ways:
 Base verb
ex. Run!
 Base verb + Object
ex. Eat your vegetables.
 Negative Auxiliary + Base verb +
Object
ex. Don’t close the window.
Use the imperative to:
 give directions and instructions
ex. Exit on Baseline Ave.
ex. Stand up straight.
 give orders and commands
ex. Be quiet!
ex. Pull over to the side of the road!
 give advice or make suggestions
ex. Drink at least 8 glasses of water
each day.
ex. Take the day off tomorrow.
 give warnings
ex. Watch out!
ex. Be careful!
 make requests
ex. Please give me a ride to school.
ex. Please help me study for the
test.
 make informal invitations
ex. Come to my party.
 ex. Go to the movies with us tonight.
NOTE:

The subject of an imperative sentence is

usually “you” but do not say or write it.
ex. (You) Please close the door.

The imperative form is the same in both

singular and plural forms.
ex. Rita, stop talking.
ex. Rita and Rosa, stop talking.

Give the Negative Imperative of the
following Positive Imperatives.

2. Park your car here.
3. Post those letters.
4. Wake up now!
5. Please reconsider.

What have learned from our discussion?
We had learned that in making
Imperative sentences we do not say
or write the pronoun you as our
subject in the sentence. It is
considered as imaginary subject.

In forming negative Imperative

we add the “don’t” in order to make
it negative.
G. Application
Write five Positive Imperatives and change
it into Negative Imperative. One number is
equivalent to two points.
H. Evaluation
In your one half sheet of paper write at
least two examples in each usage of
Imperative.
Ex. Give warnings
Keep off! Stop!
I. Assignment
Select a place and make a road map about
that place. Then write a short description
stating or explaining its location.
