Sizing Tencel
Sizing Tencel
Yarns made from Lenzing Modal® / TENCEL® and their blends show a higher
elongation when put under tensile stress, particularly in a wet state, than
comparable cotton yarns.
Tension has to be reduced when sizing Lenzing Modal® / TENCEL® and blends
by about 10 – 20% as compared to cotton.
The total elongation of the warp has to be kept between the entrance and the
beaming section, as low as possible (2–3% max.).
Do not overdry warps out of Lenzing Modal® / TENCEL® and their blends.
Residual moisture of the warp should be in the range of 11 – 12% ( 7 – 8% on
the cotton scale)
Choose sizing agents giving a flexible and elastic size film on the yarn In
principle all products suitable for cellulose fibres can be used.
Common sizes for Lenzing Modal® / TENCEL® are synthetic sizes like CMC,
PVA, Acrylic or combinations of these sizes. Modified starch / galaktomannan in
combination with PVA or Acrylic is a common size combination especially for
Lenzing Modal® or TENCEL® / cotton blends .
Use size waxes in combination with the sizing agent already. Afterwaxing has to
be done very accurately – otherwise the risk to create streaky fabrics is severe.
Yarns out of regenerated cellulose tend to create more fiber dust than cotton.
Therefore it is of advantage to use wet splitting when process warps with higher
density.
