Release Notes
Digital Audio Driver for Windows NT(tm) 3.51 and 4.00
PLEASE NOTE: To Install any new version of this driver, you MUST remove the
old driver, restart Windows NT, then Add the new driver back in. This is because
the AntexWAV.DLL file is hooked into the system and must be unhooked before
it can be overwritten. The AntexWAV.DLL file contains all the DSP code so it
must be matched to the version of AntexWAV.SYS installed on the system or the
driver will not function correctly.

CAKEWALK Users should note that Cakewalk 3.0 has been tested with the
StudioCard and Midi playback and record work as expected. Cakewalk 4.0 Midi
playback and record also worked as expected, however Cakewalk 4.0 has a
problem with Windows NT and will not playback or record Digital Audio correctly.
Cakewalk 4.01 does correct this problem and is the only version of the software
that will support Digital Audio and Midi on Windows NT. Cakewalk 4.5 and 5.0
both will not work with Windows NT (they report a illegal instruction was executed
in MIDIMAP.DLL). Twelve Tone Systems has been notifed of these problems.

SAWPLUS Users should note that older versions of SawPlus did not support
standard Windows Midi devices therefore Midi will not work with the StudioCard.
You should contact IQS to get the latest version that supports standard Windows
Midi devices.

Installation on Intel- and Alpha-based PCs

The complete set of software is found on one diskette. To install, run the
program "setup.exe" on the installation diskette.

Installation from Command Line

The driver may be installed from the command line. See the document
"setup.doc" on this installation disk for more information.

Known Problems Outstanding with Driver

• The Microsoft Multimedia Subsystem always requests a notification
callback function regardless of what the user requested. This impacts
users of the Microsoft Mixer because they must wait for the notification
event to occur even if they didn't request one. A Sleep(100) inbetween
the call to mixerSetControlDetails and mixerClose is all that is required to
keep the mixerClose from hanging. We are contacting Microsoft for a fix
for this.

signal when recording using HSYNC as the clock source.
• Corrected an RECORD-STOP problem which could hang the system. It
was most easily duplicated with a BX-44 recording an MPEG file while
also playing an MPEG file. This problem was introduced in 1.05.0.
• Corrected an PLAY-STOP problem which could hang the system. It was
most easily duplicated with a SC-2000 playing 8 devices then stopping
one device. This problem was introduced in 1.05.0.
• Corrected recovery from invalid format Restarting a play device after an
invalid format message could crash the system. This problem was
introduced in 1.05.0.

Version 1.05.0 January 13, 1999

• Corrected a pause/restart problem affecting all cards. The problem was
most easily duplicated with MPEG files when rapidly pausing and
restarting play. The driver would either not play all the data in the file,
would pause playing on it's own, or produce a blue screen.
• Fixed an interrupt sharing problem. When another card shared the same
interrupt as the Antex card, NT could crash. The problem was first
reported with a Matrox DigiSuite card.
• Driver will now open only 8- and 16-bit PCM files. Previous versions
would open all other PCM files as 16-bit files, resulting in noise, rather
than music. You'll need a new version of Demo32.exe to record 16-bit
files with this change.
• Re-enabled special timecode support for SawPlus32. This was
inadvertently disabled in version 1.04.3.
• BX-12: Added feedthrough support. Mixer lines are now grouped by

Version 1.04.7 November 11, 1998

• Corrected a pause-related problem on the StudioCard and BX12. When
the application paused a playing device, then restarted it, the device was
not automatically released after the file was played. This left the device in
the apparent mode of "playing" even though nothing was being played.
• Supported cards: SX3, SX5E, SX6, SX7, SX9, SX11, SX12A, SX20,
SX22, SX23E, SX26, SX33, SX33B, SX34, SX35, SX36, Z1, Z1E,

devices 5 & 6 to become inoperable. This was most noticeable when
simultaneously playing 6 very short files.
• On the BX-12, fixed a driver interrupt-handling problem that sometimes
caused the devices to become inoperable. This was most noticeable
when simultaneously playing 6 very short files.

simultaneously chasing MTC and playing a wave file, the wave file
sometimes stopped playing.

Version 1.02.3 August 22, 1997

• Starting, stopping, and error messages are now posted to the NT Event
Log. Other messages are be posted when debug event log messages are
enabled.

Version 1.02.2 August 13, 1997

• Up to four MIDI read client's are now supported.
• Corrected LTC/MTC format problems: 1) 24 FPS MTC conversion from
SMPTE did not work. 2) LTC generation synced to video in did not work.
3) Inaccurate MTC quarter frame periods.

Version 1.02 July 15, 1997

• Updated to support Alpha.

Version 1.01 July 10, 1997

• Add ability to disable Sync Start. Sync Start capability makes it possible to
simultaneously begin recording or playing on two or more devices
simultaneously.
Version 1.00 July 9, 1997
• Fixed an intermittent white noise problem in the StudioCard. The problem
would intermittently occur when sample rate changes were made. It could
also occur during scrubbing.
• Fixed a StudioCard problem which could cause stuck notes while
simultaneously playing MIDI, playing wave files, and generating MIDI time
code.
• Fixed a StudioCard problem which sometimes caused wave files to stop
playing.
• Fixed a StudioCard problem related to the source of clock synchronization
for tht second StudioCard in a system. On reboot, the second StudioCard
would have its clock source set back to Internal.
• Support for the SX-36 is now included.

Version 0.90S May 5, 1997

• Added Internal and External Clock References of 13.5MHz and 54MHz to
Mixer32
• Changed timeout values on the Studio Card from 500000 to 2000000.
• Added support for SX-36

Version 0.90q Jaunuary 20, 1997

• Fixed a problem that caused a BugCheck with the SX-34 and SX-35
during initialization of the driver introduced with the addition of the record
gain control on the AV2394.
• Finished the Record Mux control for the SX-34, SX-35 and AV-2394. Now
the adapter can record the play bus (Line Out) which allows the record
volume to be changed (normally the record volume is fixed). The
application must mute the feedthru audio (turn down the volumes on the
Play X device) to prevent feedback when recording from the play bus
(Line Out).
• Fixed a problem with Automatic SyncStart that could keep a device open
when two (or more) devices were being SyncStart'ed (waveOutPause,
waveOutAddBuffer) but one got put in stop (waveOutStop or
waveOutReset) before it got started (waveOutRestart). Now, the device
that got put in stop will have it's SyncStart reset - but the device that was
waiting will not begin playback until another device is started (or it gets put
into Stop then back to Play).
• Fixed a problem introduced with Version 0.90p that caused SRP devices
to not handle Mux and Mixer controls correctly.
• Mux and Mixer controls that are attached to mutiple lines (but are really
the same control) now all get notified of a control change on any
mixSetControl affecting any one of them. This means that changing the
digital input mux for any WaveIn device will update all WaveIn device's
mux.
• Fixed a problem with Mixer32 that caused the channel assign buttons on
the Mixdown mixer to be left on when restoring scenes.
• Added 44056 and 44144 as exact sample rates for the StudioCard.

Version 0.90p December 19, 1996

• Fixed problem that could cause BugCheck's with the StudioCard while
playing a short segment of audio.
• Fixed problem that could cause the driver to not load with Windows NT
3.51.
• Added SRP (Simultaneous Record and Play) mode to driver for the
StudioCard. This mode allows applications to open the same wDeviceID
for both waveOutOpen and waveInOpen. When in SRP mode, the mixer
will have a new "Mute" control for the record devices. This allows you to
Mute the feedthru audio while recording. When in non-SRP mode, this
control is not needed as you can just turn down the play half of the device
(which doesn't exist in SRP mode).
• Added Auto Mono control for the StudioCard (shows up as AVol in
Mixer32) which automatically changes the mixer settings for the play
device when playing mono files versus stereo files. Mono files would
normally only come out the left channel of the device (and thus only the
output that the left channel is connected to). When Auto Mono (AVol) is
on, and a mono file is played, the volume setting for the right channel of
the device is copied to the left channel, and the audio will appear out two
channels (either 1&2 or 3&4 depending on the device number).
Conversely, when a stereo file is played, the output channels assigned to
the right half of the play device are muted on the left so stereo files will be
played back normally. This feature can be disabled by turning off Auto
Mono (AVol) and thus no changes will be made to the volume settings
when stereo or mono files are played.

Version 0.90o November 25, 1996

• Fixed problem with PCI Bus Scan that caused DeskStation Raptors to
return "Adapter Not Responding" errors.
• Fixed problem that caused the Alpha Windows NT 3.51 to not load the
driver. The driver did run on NT 4.00.
• Updated the StudioCard DSP Code to improve phase sync on the D/A
converter.

Version 0.90n November 6, 1996

• Changed SX-5e to reduce playback delay of PCM16. New delay is
approx 1.6 ms at 44.1 kHz.
• Changed SX-22 DSP Code to fix 22,050 Hz sample rate problems.
• Changed SX-23e DSP Code to fix problems with Sierra frequency synth.
Altera should continue to work OK.
• Changed setup program to recognize if another audio driver is already
loaded so it doesn't overwrite the other audio drivers entries in the registry.

Version 0.90m October 15, 1996

• Fixed a couple of problems with the timecode generation on the
StudioCard.
• Added Support for the SX-35.

Version 0.90l October 8, 1996

• This is the first test release of the driver for the StudioCard. The version
banner states it is Version 1.00 with no letter code for documentation
purposes.
• The Mixer application has been updated to allow all StudioCard Timecode
controls to be displayed.

Version 0.90k October 4, 1996

• This is an interim release of the driver. Some problems with the driver and
or application software shipped with the driver still exist and will be
corrected before the final release of the StudioCard.
• Changed timeout values on the StudioCard from 100000 to 500000.

Version 0.90j September 27, 1996

• This is an interim release of the driver. Some problems with the driver and
or application software shipped with the driver still exist and will be
corrected before the final release of the StudioCard.
• Fixed a problem with the SX-9/11/23e/26 that caused a click when
changing sample rates from one of the fixed rates
(11025,22050,32000,44100,48000) to one of the variable rates.

Version 0.90i September 12, 1996

• This is an interim release of the driver. Some problems with the driver and
or application software shipped with the driver still exist and will be
corrected before the final release of the StudioCard.
• Fixed a problem with the StudioCard that would cause the adapter not to
be initailized correctly.

Version 0.90h September 10, 1996

• This is an interim release of the driver. Some problems with the driver and
or application software shipped with the driver still exist and will be
corrected before the final release of the StudioCard.
• Added Stereo Mixdown mode to the Mixer32 application for the
StudioCard.
• Made Demo32 application automatically position itself on the screen
depending on how many other Demo32 applications are currently running.
• Added several Timecode controls to the StudioCard. This is not yet
supported by the Mixer32 application.
• Made the setup program always install Demo32 and Mixer32. User can
still specifiy where they are to be put on the drive.
• Changed syncronization between foreground calls to the driver and the
DPC. Previously a Mutex protected the foreground calls from the DPC,
but this was found not to work correctly in some situations, so it was
changed to a Spinlock.
• Fixed waveOutSetVolume bug caused in 0.90e.

Version 0.90g August 16, 1996

• This is an interim release of the driver. Some problems with the driver and
or application software shipped with the driver still exist and will be
corrected before the final release of the StudioCard.
• Changed the SX9,11,23e,26 and SX-22 to set the sample rate to exactly
11025 and 22050 when those rates are selected. Other sample rates are
still selected using the standard method.
• Added MIDI Driver for the StudioCard. Midi playback has been tested with
CakeWalk 3.0 and 4.0. Cakewalk 4.5 and 5.0 will not run on Windows NT.
Twelve Tone systems has been contacted about this and will provide an
update. Midi record currently does not support System Exclusive or
Realtime messages.
• The StudioCard will occasionally startup out of sync (which causes
distorted audio playback) or will go out of sync during playback when
skewing the sample rate with the Pitch scrollbar in the Demo application.
This can be fixed by stopping all playback and turning the Digital Input on
and then back off again (from either Mixer32 or Demo32). We are
currently working on a fix for this problem.
• New Mixer32.exe Application included instead of SNDVOL32.exe (Which
doesn't work with all of our audio cards due to a bug in SNDVOL32.exe).
Please note that the Mixer32 program is a work in progress and this is a
sample release of what the application might look like. Several changes
are planned including a Stereo Mixdown mode (instead of 8 volume
controls per playback device) and changing how lines are enable or
disabled.
The Mixer32 application will automatically save the position of the mixer
on the screen and which lines are enabled / disabled whenever you exit
the program or change to another mixer (with the "Mixer" menu item).
These settings are then reloaded when the Mixer32 application is
launched or you switch back to this mixer. This is not the same as saving
a "Scene". Scenes also save the position of each control within the mixer,
not just the Window position and line enable/disable status.
• The "Antex Audio Driver Setup" dialog box currently lists 1, 2, 4, or 8 for
the number of devices available for the StudioCard. Please note that 8
will be the only valid number of devices (The dialog box will be updated in
a future release of the driver).

Version 0.90f July 1996

• Internal Test Release Only.

Version 0.90e July 1996

• Internal Test Release Only.

Version 0.90d July 3, 1996

• Fixed a bug introduced in 0.90a that caused a new driver installation for
the SX-12A/20/22/23e/26/7/9/11 to set all the volumes to zero. Now all
volumes are set to max upon new installation.
• Changed some of the error messages returned by the driver during
installation to be more specific about where the problem occured.

Version 0.90c June 28, 1996

• Properly fixed the DSP code so the PC will wait until the DSP is ready
after downloading the COF file on the SX-34 and AV-2394.

Version 0.90b June 25, 1996

• Internal Test Release Only.
• Changed the order that devices are listed within the driver. Previously,
devices were listed in reverse order (Device/2 was before Device/1). This
has been changed so Device/1 will be listed before Device/2. No further
changes will be made to the device order.
• Changed the StudioCard and EX-4/TX-4 to have multiple volume controls
for each play device. Now, each play device will have four volume
controls with 1 or 2 Channels per output line instead of one volume control
with four channels. This allows the StudioCard to assign any playback
channel to any lineout.
• Changed the names of the mixer lines for play and record from:
Old New
"Play 0" "Play 1"
"Play 1" "Play 2"
"Record 0" "Rec 1"
"Record 1" "Rec 2"
• Added new controls to the mixer: Clock Source, Record Select, Sync
Start.
• Fixed a problem introduced with 0.90a that caused Trim, Digital Status
and VOX to return incorrect values.
• Fixed a problem that caused a buffer to never be returned from the driver
if the adapter fails to start playback correctly.
• Changed the timeout values for the SX-34 from 50,000 to 200,000. This is
the same fix that was done for SX-23e with Version 0.80t.

Version 0.90a May 23, 1996

• This is the first release of the driver to support the DEC Alpha Platform.
• Fixed a problem that could cause the driver to BugCheck (blue screen)
when an adapter failed to open and the driver was unloaded.
• Added VOX controls to SX12 and Z1.
• Fixed the bug that caused the driver to never return a zero length buffer.
• Fixed a bug with the Z1e and SX33 in dual device mode that caused the
mixer to be invalid for the second record device.
• Fixed a bug with the Z1e and SX33 in that caused the mixer to not update
the play volumes correctly when changing the line out master.
• Fixed a problem that could cause the DLL to fail loading some error
strings.
• Did some prelimiary testing with NT 4.0 b2. Found it to work as expected.
