Structural Design of Bridges, Robs and Underpasses
The preliminary design calculations for all bridges and ROBs are given in Vol II:
Structural Design Report Part II. The detailed structural designs are presented in this
Volume.
1. Design of Bridges
Super structure :
RCC slabs are proposed for span lengths upto 10.5m. RCC slab with T beams are
proposed for span lengths between 10.5 and 24m. Accordingly, the superstructure of
the bridges are grouped depending on the span. Typical design for each group is
attached.

The abutment and footing designs of all bridges are done separately based on the loads
and moments from the superstructure and substructure. Subsequently, these designs
are grouped depending on the height of abutment, size of the footing and the steel
requirement. Accordingly, four design groups are formulated. The critical design for each
group is attached.
The pier and open footing designs of the four bridges are done separately based on the
loads and moments from the superstructure and substructure. Subsequently, these
designs are grouped depending on the height of abutment, size of the footing and the
steel requirement. Accordingly, two design groups are formulated. The critical design for
each group is attached.

2 Design of ROBs
Super structure :
Pretensioned girders are proposed at the three ROB locations. Separate designs are
attached for each ROB location.

Trestle pier with pile foundation is proposed at ROB at Chainage 81+400 at both
abutment and pier locations. Reinforced earth wall is proposed beyond the abutment.
The design of the pier and abutment is attached . Abutment with open footing is
provided at the other two ROB locations. Typical design calculation of abutment design
at one ROB location is attached.

Ten underpasses are proposed along the project stretch.Seven single cells , Two Twin
cells and one cattle pass is provided. Typical design for each vehicular underpass and
cattle underpass is attached.
