The Israelite community arrived at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin during the first month. The people quarreled with Moses and Aaron due to the lack of water. God commanded Moses to take his staff and gather the people so he could speak to the rock to produce water. However, Moses struck the rock twice with his staff instead of speaking to it as instructed. This showed Moses failed to honor God as holy. Aaron died on Mount Hor and the Israelites mourned his death.

GOD BRINGS WATER OUT OF THE ROCK

Numbers 20:1-29

"Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that
rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for
the community so they and their livestock can drink."
