2015 Numbers Study Lesson 13

GOD PUNISHES IDOLATRY OF ISRAEL

Numbers 25-26

Key verse 25:11

"Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the
Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for my honor among them, so that in my zeal I did
not put an end to them.

1. What sin did the Israelites commit in Shittm, and what was the result (25:2-3)? What was God’s
wrath upon them (4,5,9)?

2. When did the plague stop (6-8)? How did the actions of Phineas turn the Lord’s anger away
from the Israelites (11-13)? What covenant did God make with him? What did God command
about the Midianites (16-18)? What was the holy jealousy that we should have as God’s
servants?

3. What did Moses and Eleazer take a census of after the plague 26:1-4? How is the time and place
different for the first and second census 63, 1:1? Count the men that were recorded in the census
by their families. How does the total count compare with that of the first census 51; 1:46?

4. How must the land be distributed among the people (52-56)? How many were counted in the
Levitical census (57-62)? Why were they not counted with the other Israelites? Who were not
counted in the second census (63, 65)?
