How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Within my coursework, I will create my magazine front cover by following the codes and conventions of
fashion magazines. All fashion magazines have a masthead which is the biggest font on the cover at the
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
top of the page. My Masthead will be 'ESTILO' and I will follow the convention of placing it at the top of
the magazine cover, therefore my target audience will be able to clearly see it on the shelf. They also
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
include a positioning statement (my magazine positioning statement is 'find your style') on their front
cover. I will place mine below the masthead as a second title statement which will follow the codes and
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
conventions. A main image is extremely important as that is one aspect of the front cover that will attract
the target audience to my magazine. I am going to use a female in my first magazine, and she will directly
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
address the audience in a mid-shot with the appropriate Mise En Scene. Coverlines are another code and
convention, with sublines underneath, which are mostly placed at the side of the main image, an example
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
of a cover line I am using on my cover is ‘MICHAEL KORS: WATCH OUT!’ which I will place at the side of
my image with a subline to follow the codes and conventions. The front cover will also include a main
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
cover line to draw in the audience. The main cover line I have chosen is ‘THEY’RE HERE!’ and this can be
placed over the image as long as the face is still seen.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
The contents page has different codes and conventions that need to be followed. Firstly the contents
page will have ‘CONTENTS’ as a title which is in the biggest font on that page. Often the front page is
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
prominent within the contents meaning that the contents and the front cover link whether that means the
image of the front cover is inside the magazine or the colour scheme, stories and Mise En scene match
what is displayed on the outside. For example; I will incorporate my magazine cover into my contents by
putting a little image in the top left corner of my front cover and use the same colour scheme. Another

convention of the contents page is that headings are used to divide each section i.e. I will use the

permission might not be needed if the marketing communication contains nothing that is inconsistent
with the position or views of the featured person.
