Chapter 13: A

In my point of view, the gun can symbolize the masculinity of Okonkwo

because in the reality nobody wants to hold the gun because it is very dangerous to

other people around there. It can have an accident every times. Actually, the gun

uses for protecting other people, so the main purpose of Okonkwo that hold the gun

is he may want to prevent his family. On the other, during the time that he carries the

gun, it has some bad accident that the gun is fired and the son of Ezeudu is shooted

by Okonkwo. From this situation causes the sixteen-year-old boy died. Anyway, even

this is the biggest horrible behavior, Okonkwo does not get any punishment for

attempting to shoot Ezeudu's son because other people in the village may know that

Okonkwo is a title man that he does many things that have a lot of benefits for the

society and the person who was died is an untitled boy. Even he died it may not

affect to the society that much. In my opinion, the people in village may think about

this kind of reason because if according to the tradition Okonkwo should be killed.

But the punishment of Okonkwo is he just leaves from Umuofia for seven years

instead.

does not stay alone in this world. There are many people that stay beside him when

the time that he feels not good. And, Uchendu had his own experiences about the

thing that the terrible sensation. It can refer to the song, “When you walk through a

storm/ Hold your head up high/ And don't be afraid of the dark”, this stanza of the

song mean when you walk through the storm, which can show that it absolutely has

other people walk in the same way with on and face on the same struggle or maybe

closer than you. Even you face to the big problem which may be difficult to solve,

you should try to do by you best ability. Therefore, for this specific lyris can refer to

Uchendu’s point of view.
