SUBJECT: School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) - Assessment of Needs and Prioritization of
Topics/Agenda for LAC PLAN 2018 by grade level
Date & Time: 6/22/2018 @ 10am-12noon by grade level at your convenient room venue

In consonance with DepEd Order No. 35, series of 2016 which fully supports the continuing
professional development of its teaching personnel based on the principle of lifelong learning and DepEd’s
commitment to the development of teachers potential aimed towards their success in the profession,
improve teaching practices and learner’s achievement through the Learning Action Cells (LAC), we are
hereby directed to implement Step 1- Assessment of Needs and Step 2- Prioritization of Topics/Agenda of
learning.

Step I. How to conduct Assessment of Needs

“The content of LAC sessions may be determined by the teachers themselves under the general
guidance of the school head or LAC leader. This may be done through needs assessment, the results of
which should assist the LAC in listing their priority areas of learning (DepEd Order No. 35, s. 2016)”.

In a meeting, the teachers can be asked by the School Heads to bring CG, TG/LMs and reflections
from DLPs/DLLs in the last school year. Based on those documents and their previous experiences, let
them write down issues in teaching-learning or this can be given as an assignment before the actual
meeting for assessment of needs. Let the teachers write their needs in a metacard and post them under
the following categories during the meeting set for assessment of needs:

a. Content Knowledge
b. Skill in Particular Instructional Strategies
c. Skill in Assessment
d. Knowledge of learners and how they learn
e. Ethics
f. 21st century skills
g. Contextualization, localization, indigenization
h. Participation/attendance, child-finding activities
i. Research and innovation
j. Others
After posting, the teachers may add other items which they missed but remembered upon seeing
the categories. Other methods of assessing needs may also be employed by the School Heads if desired.

Step 2. Prioritization of Topics/Competencies/Needs

The LAC leader decides with the teachers the order by which the needs will be prioritized by
ranking the items under each category. “The basis for prioritization could be in terms of urgency of
need, time needed in addressing the need, interest or in whatever way agreed upon by the members
of the group (DepEd Order No. 35, s. 2016)”.

To my beloved teachers, today as your output on this paper, you need to submit list of priority
topics or agenda for future SLAC plan and schedules based on step 1 and 2. Attached to this output
should be your action photos of doing such grade level LAC gathering. God bless…
