GENERAL REFERENCES

1.1. Section 3D-15 covers the requirements for cable support including the use of cable
trays and conduits.

1.2. Refer to the latest edition of the applicable codes and standards as follows:

• National Electrical Code (NEC)..

• National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)

• Cable Tray Systems.

• Chilean Standard NCh 4/84 (SEC).

2. PRODUCTS

2.1. The following class and material shall be used unless otherwise noted in drawings.

2.2. Class 8C heavy-duty Galvanized & painted steel ladder type cable tray
rated 149 kg/m. Accsesories (bolts, nut, washers) shall be stainless steel.

2.3. Support hardware shall be made of galvanized steel, Unistrut or demonstrated

better.

2.4. Instrument cable tray shall be the same as 2.2.

2.5. Areas defined as highly corrosive will use cable tray system of FRP, of the sun-
resistant type, and conduit of PVC, schedule 80. Support hardware and accessories
will be stainless steel, FRP, or other demostrated better anticorrosive material.

3. INSTALLATION

3.1. Install cable trays in accordance with code.

3.2. Install cable tray supports at a minimum interval of 2.4 m [8 ft]. Support details are 3D-15.11
not shown on construction drawings. Use the referenced design standard as a
guide to installing the supports. Cable tray and supports shall be installed in
accordance with the codes and standards given in article 1.2 above and in
accordance with design standards in this Section.

3.3. Cable trays to be grounded at intervals as required by code and as noted in the 3D-35.06
referenced design standard.

3.4. Dedicated bonding jumpers shall be installed at each expansion joint location. At all
other locations where electrical continuity of the cable tray system has been
weakened or broken (e.g. at adjustable vertical locations) use #2/0 AWG, 19 strand
copper conductor with compression type lugs approved for the installation. Bolt
lugs to cable tray with cadmium plated round head bolts.

3.5. Covers must be used where falling debris could injure cables or where
combustibles such as sawdust could accumulate on cables.

3.6. Where cable tray covers are used to protect cables from the sun, use 25 [1]
minimum spacers between cable tray and covers to provide air circulation.

3.7. Cable trays that pass through Electrical Room walls shall slope down on the outside 1D-05.02
in order to prevent ingress of water into the Electrical Room.

3.8. Oxide inhibiting compound shall be used on all connections. Burndy Penetrox A13
or T&B Aluma-Shield compound for aluminum connections.

3.9. Bolt barrier with stainless steel bolts. Barrier ends shall be 280 [11] apart, to allow
slack for expansion or contraction.
o
3.10. For vertical bends of less that 30 use adjustable vertical risers.

3.11. Cut ends of galvanized steel shall be dressed with zinc epoxy paint to prevent
corrosion.

3.12. Use barrier to separate cables of different voltage class and different cable
ampacity derating factors.
3.13 All cables tray and conduits fixing hardware shall be cover with epoxic paint in order
To prevent corrosion.
