2000 MM 1900 MM: Check For Crack Width As Per Is 456-2000

This document summarizes the calculation of crack width in a concrete beam according to IS 456-2000. The beam has a width of 2000mm, depth of 1900mm, and effective depth of 1844mm. The grade of concrete is M50 with a modulus of 35355.3391 N/mm2. The maximum moment is 1180 Tm. Calculations show the crack width will be 0.228mm, which is less than the allowable 0.25mm. Therefore, the crack width meets the requirements of IS 456-2000.

CHECK FOR CRACK WIDTH AS PER IS 456-2000

BEAM SECTION :-
WIDTH (b) = 2000 mm e1
DEPTH (D)= 1900 mm
d-x fs/Es D-x
EFFECTIVE DEPTH (d) = 1844 mm d D
CLEAR COVER = 40 mm x
Ast = 29030 mm²
TOTAL COVER = 56 mm fc/Ec
GRADE OF CONCRETE (fck ) = M 50 Strain Diagram

ELASTIC MODULUS OF CONCRETE (Ec) = 5000X SQRT(fck) = 35355.3391 N/mm²

ELASTIC MODULUS OF CONCRETE (Es) = 200000 N/mm²
MODULAR RATIO (m) = 5.66
MAXm MOMENT (Ms) = 1180 Tm

FROM DIAGRAM, e1 =(fs/Es)x(D-x)/(d-x) ……………………….( 1 )

Now, FROM THE METHOD OF THE TRANSFORMED SECTION, b*x*x/2 = m*As*(d-x)
So,
x= 474.28 mm (PUTTING THE VALUE OF b, m , As ,& d )

fs = Ms/(As*(d-x/3)) = 241.10 N/mm^2

FROM THE EQUATION (1) , e1 = 0.0013 mm

e2 (DUE TO STRAIN HARDENING) = 1.5*b*(D-x)*(a-x)/{3*Es*As*(d-x)}

TAKING, D=a= 1900 mm e2 = 0.000000 mm < e1

SO THERE WILL BE CRACK. (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

CRACK WIDTH = 3*acr*ξm/{1+2*(acr-cmin)/(D-x)} (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456) ……. ( 2 )

HERE, ξm = e1-e2 = 0.001255 mm (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

acr = Sqrt[(R/4)²+ec²]-dia/2 (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

###
No. of bars per layer 18
FROM THE EQUATION (2) , BAR DIA. Main bar = 32 mm
BAR DIA. Stp. bar = 16 mm
CRACK WIDTH = 0.228 mm < 0.25, Hence ok ec =
cmin+dia/2
72 mm

R =b-2*cmin-dia
