A.Hospital Rules & Regulations:


 Routine visiting times end at 9 p.m. so that patients may get
adequate rest.
 Specialty areas within the hospital may have more detailed
visitation guidelines based upon those patient's condition and
needs.
 Clergy may visit at any time at the request of the patient.
 We encourage only two visitors at a time.
 Please remember to check with the nurse before sending plants or
flowers. Some areas have restrictions concerning these.
 Visitors are encouraged to ask questions. However, because of
confidentiality and privacy considerations, patients must first give
permission before any personal health information is released.
 Visitors must follow all hospital rules,
 Please avoid visiting hospital patients if you are ill.

Most patients are eligible for tobacco replacement therapy


(nicotine patches) during hospitalization. You may request this service by
asking your nurse or doctor. Please be aware that patients are not
permitted to leave the hospital to smoke.

B.Patient's Rights and Obligations

 Patient’s Obligations
1. To take care of their own health and to not endanger other patients’
health

2. To observe the established order and regulations in the medical facility


and the respective Department

3. In case of hospital admission, to leave money and valuables with


his/her relatives. The Hospital will not be held responsible for patient’s
lost (missing) belongings and valuables

4. To not smoke in the building of the Hospital

5. To not bring alcohol, narcotic drugs [intoxicating substances], personal


electric appliances, perishable foods, etc.
6. To protect the Hospital property; in case of proven damages, s/he is
obliged to pay back their cost.

Obligations of patients under the age of 18 are borne by their parents,


guardians or trustees or people under the definitions of Art. 162, para. 3
of the Law on Health Care.

 Patient’s rights

1. Right to Preventive Measures

Every individual has the right to a proper service in order to


prevent illness.

2. Right of Access

Every individual has the right of access to the health services that
his or her health needs require. The health services must guarantee equal
access to everyone, without discriminating on the basis of financial
resources, place of residence, kind of illness or time of access to services.

3. Right to Information

Every individual has the right to access to all kind of information


regarding their state of health, the health services and how to use them,
and all that scientific research and technological innovation makes
available.

4. Right to Consent

Every individual has the right of access to all information that


might enable him or her to actively participate in the decisions regarding
his or her health; this information is a prerequisite for any procedure and
treatment, including the participation in scientific research.

5. Right to Free Choice

Each individual has the right to freely choose from among


different treatment procedures and providers on the basis of adequate
information.
6. Right to Privacy and Confidentiality

Every individual has the right to the confidentiality of personal


information, including information regarding his or her state of health
and potential diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, as well as the
protection of his or her privacy during the performance of diagnostic
examinations, specialist visits, and medical and/or surgical treatments in
general.

7. Right to Respect of Patients’ Time

Each individual has the right to receive necessary treatment within


a swift and predetermined period of time. This right applies at each phase
of the treatment.

8. Right to the Observance of Quality Standards

Each individual has the right of access to high quality health


services on the basis of the specification and observance of precise
standards.

9. Right to Safety

Each individual has the right to be free from harm caused by the
poor functioning of health services, medical malpractice and errors, and
the right of access to health services and treatments that meet high safety
standards.

10. Right to Innovation

Each individual has the right of access to innovative procedures,


including diagnostic procedures, according to international standards and
independently of economic or financial considerations.

11. Right to Avoid Unnecessary Suffering and Pain

Each individual has the right to avoid as much suffering and pain
as possible, in each phase of his or her illness.

12. Right to Personalized Treatment

Each individual has the right to diagnostic or therapeutic


programmes tailored as much as possible to his or her personal needs

13. Right to Complain

Each individual has the right to complain whenever he or she has


suffered harm and the right to receive a response or other feedback.

14. Right to Compensation


Each individual has the right to receive sufficient compensation
within a reasonably short time whenever he or she has suffered physical
or moral and psychological harm caused by a health service treatment.

C.Facilities in Hospital
 OPD (Allopathy & Homeopathy):

Patients are registered at the reception and are seen on first


come, first serve basis, however out of turn consultation may be
provided in case of emergency and senior citizen. Patients have the
right to consult any doctor. In OPD, clinical consultation is
provided to patients which includes history taking, clinical
examination, diagnosis and providing prescription to patients
besides advising laboratory tests in some cases. OPD has a waiting
hall with chairs, a TV, public utilities like drinking water and
toilets. Sub waiting areas are available in front of individual
consultation rooms. Wheel chairs, trolleys and attendants are there
to help very sick patients.

 Dental facility:

An experienced Dental surgeon provides procedures like


Dental Extractions, RCT, Scaling /Cleaning, Fillings, Local
curettage.

 Ward/ Indoor facility:

Ward facilities for observation and management of medical


problem like typhoid, acute gastroenteritis, COPD, bronchial
asthma, malaria, viral fever, pneumonias etc. There are 3 wards,
one special room and one well equipped emergency.

 Minor OT:

Provides services for minor surgical procedure like dressing


of lacerated wound, suturing of minor lacerations & resuturing,
excision of corns and sebaceous cysts (done under local
anesthesia.)

 Physiotherapy:

Range of physiotherapy services to assist the patients to


recover from wide range of musculoskeletal pain-ful disorders.
Available modalities are MWD, SWD, U/S, TENS, IFC laser
therapy traction unit, magnolia.

 Laboratory services:
Trained laboratory staff are providing best services which
includes painless blood withdrawal Services of one NABL
accredited laboratory are also available for carrying out specialised
tests, they collect sample from 8 AM to 12 noon. In IIT Hospital.

Sample collection time for IIT laboratory is 8 am to 10.30 am


while emergency tests like Blood sugar, platelet count & Hb &
blood grouping done in emergent cases throughout OPD hours.

 ECG Services:

24hours ECG services including machine report, done by


trained staff.

 Pharmacy:

Free reliable quality medicines are available to beneficiaries


on doctor prescription during OPD hours. Medicines not available
are provided by S.O. signed by prescribing Doctor and Head and
collected from on campus chemist shop.

 Radiology/X-ray facility:

X-Ray pleophos-D, 300 MA Siemens available, X-rays done


on all working days during OPD hour. Sonoline G-50 U/S
machine, Siemens. Ultrasounds are done once a week.

 Ambulance Services:

24 hours patient transport vehicle available. Patients are


transported from home (on campus) to IIT hospital and patients
referred by emergency duty doctor to empanelled hospital for
specialized case.

D. Medical staff in the Hospital

There are many people who contribute to your care while you are in
hospital. Numerous people and services work together to provide you
with successful treatment in a hospital, from medical assessments and
daily treatment to medication and catering.

 Doctors (medical staff)

You may be treated by a number of doctors during your hospital stay


– the consultant (specialist), the registrar and the resident. Together they
assess and manage your medical care. Depending on which hospital you
are in, you may also be treated by interns and student doctors who work
under the supervision of the senior doctors.

Doctors – roles and responsibilities

Doctors have different roles and responsibilities based on their level


of experience and their medical specialty.

These roles include:

 senior consultants – specialist doctors who see patients at specific


times
 registrars – senior doctors who supervise residents, interns and
students
 residents – look after patients on the ward and are in training for
specialisation
 interns – have completed their studies and are now finishing their
final year in hospital
 student doctors – undergraduate medical students.
The resident is based on the ward and is typically the doctor you will
see most often. The registrar is the ward’s senior doctor and is usually
contactable on site, while the senior consultant (or specialist) attends
ward rounds and meetings at specific times.

 Nurses

Nurses manage most of your ongoing care and treatment in hospital.


They assess, plan and administer your daily treatment and manage your
general health. Speak to them about your immediate needs. They can also
direct you to the right people to speak to about specific medical issues.

Nurses – roles and responsibilities

Like doctors, nurses have different roles and responsibilities based on


their experience and specialties.

These roles include:

 nurse unit manager – runs the ward


 associate nurse unit manager – helps the nurse unit manager to run
the ward and acts as the manager when the nurse unit manager is
off site
 nurse practitioners – highly skilled nurses with an advanced level
of training
 specialist nurses, such as clinical nurse specialists, clinical nurse
consultants, clinical nurse educators, triage nurses, emergency
department nurses
 registered nurses – provide a high level of day-to-day care and
perform some minor procedures
 enrolled nurses – provide basic medical care under the supervision
of more senior nurses.
 Allied health professionals

Allied health professionals are university-educated practitioners who


work as part of your multidisciplinary healthcare team. They assess,
diagnose and treat conditions and work to prevent disease and disability.

Some examples of allied health professionals include:

 dietitians
 occupational therapists
 pharmacists
 physiotherapists
 podiatrists
 speech pathologists.

You may also meet allied health assistants, who have been trained to
help some of these allied health professionals in a support role.
 Other hospital staff

Keeping a hospital running requires a great deal of organisation and


administration. During your hospital stay, you will see a wide range of
