DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING

MAIN SKILL SET No: 05

1. List out the different types of sensors?

Temperature Sensor
Proximity Sensor
Accelerometer
IR Sensor (Infrared Sensor)
Pressure Sensor
Light Sensor
Ultrasonic Sensor
Smoke, Gas and Alcohol Sensor
Touch Sensor
Color Sensor
Humidity Sensor
Tilt Sensor
Flow and Level Sensor

2. List the function of IR and PIR sensors?

Infrared sensors are also capable of measuring the heat(infrared radiation) being emitted
by an object and detecting motion.

PIR sensor measures infrared (IR) light radiating from objects in its field of view. They
are most often used in PIR-based motion detectors.
3. List the proximity sensors
A Proximity Sensor is a non-contact type sensor that detects the presence of an object.
Proximity Sensors can be implemented using different techniques like
Photoelectric sensors(use light sensitive elements to detect objects)
Ultrasonic sensor,
Hall Effect sensor,
Capacitive sensors(detection of metallic and non-metallic objects)
Inductive sensors(detection of metallic objects)
Magnetic sensors(Detects the presence of permanent magnets)

4. List the actuators?

An actuator is a component of a machine that is responsible for moving and controlling a
mechanism or system
a) Electrical Actuator (DC motor, AC motor, stepper motor, servo motor)
b) Hydraulic Actuator (Hydraulic pump, Gear pump,Vane pump, Piston pump,
Hydraulic motor)
c) Pneumatic Actuator

5. List the driver assistant system?

Automatic vehicle parking system,
Automotive night vision,
Blind spot detection,
Collision avoidance system,
Driver monitoring system,
Forward collision warning system,
Lane departure warning system,
Emergency driver assistant

6. List the components of automatic braking system?

7. How the vehicles are interconnected?
Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication’s ability to wirelessly exchange
information about the speed and position of surrounding vehicles shows great
promise in helping to avoid crashes, ease traffic congestion, and improve the
environment

8. List the components of Lane following system?

9. List the components used in Traffic sign recognition system?
Detection
 Blurring
 Colour-based detection
 Shape-based detection
 Cropped and Extract features
 Separation
Recognition
 Tesseract OCR, SVM, Template matching, SIFT, SURF, ORB, HOG, MSER
etc

10. List the sensor for colour recognition?

o CMOS IMAGING SENSORS
o Color Sensors

11. How the adaptive headlight is controlled?

 Adaptive headlights react to the steering, speed and elevation of the car and
automatically adjust to illuminate the road ahead. When the car turns right, the
headlights angle to the right. Turn the car left, the headlights angle to the left. The
glare of oncoming headlights can cause serious visibility problems
12. List the components of collision warning system?
Radar-
 Detects vehicles within a range of about 100 meters ahead, in a 16-degree arc
Sensors-
 The system determines driving conditions using a range of sensors that detect
factors such as yaw rate, steering angle, wheel speed, and brake pressure.
CAS Electronic Control Unit (ECU):
 Based on distance to the vehicle ahead and relative speed obtained from radar
information, and on the anticipated vehicle path as determined based on sensor
information, the ECU calculates the likelihood of a collision, and warns the driver

13. List the sensors for obstacle detection?

Active sensors-Radar, lidar, sonar
Passive sensors-IR
14. List the components of crash avoidance system?

15. List the task to be performed using electrical and electronic components?
